When I bought the 700m I save a few bucks and went with a DVDrom drive. Now I'm finding I'd like to at least burn CD's with Itunes. What's my choices for add on DVD/CD Rom burners. I could not find any on Dell's site.

you can actually get a regular DVD for the 700m? when did they start offering this?

i want the slot loading drive, like on the powerbooks

would this drive fit in a 700m?

Newegg

I love the slot loading drives too, I think this is the one apple uses. It's alot slower than the NEC DVD burner but I don't care, the design is so much better.

Since the 700m uses a standard notebook form factor sized drive, I couldn't see why not.

I guess that's what I'm asking. Has anyone replaced the drive and with what? I Hear the Nec 6500A Dual layer might work , and I believe it's the 6100a that dell uses, but I can't find any of those about...

you could just call dell to buy it. if it's within your 21 days (maybe more) you may be able to convince them to let you pay the difference between yours and the dual layer dvdrom/cdrw. I bet they would go for that. It is a modular drive.

The Panasonic slot drive will fit neatly as do MOST drives.
So if you go for the bare drive you'll need to butcher your current drive or spare drive see here.......> http://notebookforums.com/showthread...288#post507288
Off hand don't know how much Dell would charge for their drive if its say an extra $40 on top of the cost of a bare drive go for it. This save you 15 minutes or how ever long it takes to custom fit the bare drive to your unit.
