Hi there.
Specs.
Targa Visonary 811a
AMD 64 bit processor 3000+
15,4" WXGA TFT (Resolution 1280 x 800)
Ati mobility radeon 9700/ 128 MB 350mhz
60 GB HDD (5400 rpm)
DVD R/RW
512 Mb DDR
802.11g wireless LAN
I bought this a week ago today for £1070 or 1500 euro.
I wasnt too sure about it as i have never really heard of this make before. After some research i discovered it was manufactured by arima, this company conincides with gateway and emachines.
For the price i believe this is an exceptional machine. The protential on the 64bit cpu means it will last longer than 32bit cpus when 64 bit os are out.
The screen is fantastic. Its a widescreen 15.4 inch tft, very clear, very colourful, and i am deeply impressed with the lack of annoying relfections found on my previous monitor for my pc.
This pretty much was my dream spec, however at the time i believe a p4 dell with the same spec would be about £1300. So i believe i was met with a bargain. The ATI radeon 128mb 9700 is just such a treat, i am currently playing halflife 2 and cs:s. Beautiful visuals and not a flicker in frame rate. i think i just need to update the driver.
3d benchmarks tests coming soon....
the dvd rw is a wonderfull piece of technology, the amount of games and software i can cram in to one disk is amazing, excellent storage.
Another add bonus is the fact that the 512mb ram is upgradable to 2gb, due to its location. there is a small panel held down by a screw on the underside of the laptop. once remove the ram is just clicked out and clicked back in. I realise this isnt easy in other laptops so i thought i would mention it is possible on mine.
There is a 7 in 1 card reader on the left side of the laptop, very hand for additional storage. There are 4 usb slots, 2 at the back and 2 beside the card reader.
To me the keyboard is slightly crammed together , although this is my first laptop and i am used to regular keybaords,in fact i am currently typing is review on it right now, if only you can see the amount of times i made a mistake, lol.
the touch pad is cool but too sensitive, when i want to move it the pointer clicks instead, there is a side scroller too for handiness.
A few freebies i got with it are, usb light for night work, 64mb usb stick, wireless usb mouse, remote control, s-video out, carrycase etc.
I will have some pics to show off later, bye for now.
Peter
