here's the quote from theregister.com..."Indeed, according to Intel's head of mobile products, Anand Chandrasekher, speaking to The Register yesterday, the company is expecting more than 125 design wins to be announced alongside the Sonoma launch next quarter. Sources suggest the Sonoma launch will come sooner rather than later, with 17 January 2005 being offered for the platform's debut."

what is so special about sonoma laptops? what are they offering that the sagers are not.

sonomai is not a laptop, it's a chipset/cpu configuration

It has:

an updated Pentium M processor (Dothan) that is cheaper to make, smaller, more powerful, let heat (and it has a larger onchip memory cache)

it operates with a 533fsb (rather than 400 of centrino)

it has an updated WLan chipset, which consumers less power and is supposedly easier to work with for programmers

and the Alviso chipset with better audio technology, and improved version display power saving technology

well i was hoping that when i said "sonoma laptops" people wouldn't think i actually meant sonoma branded laptops. i meant laptops with the sonoma chipset and technology inside of them.

and don't forget that sonoma offers dual channel ddr400 or ddr2-533 and sata and of course pci-e on top of what gerryf mentioned.

also while sonoma will be more efficient than dothan, becuase of its added features (especially the 533fsb) it will consume about 27 watts to the dothans 21.5 watts.
