We only have two resellers here - Pioneer Computers (not Pioneer who makes TVs...) and ITC (often through other re-re sellers). ITC are apparently buying their D870P laptops from someone in the USA who buys them from SAGER who gets them from Clevo.. Follow that?

ITC are not authorised by Clevo to sell the D870P in Australia - only Pioneer Computers is. So, if your having problems with an ITC laptop GOOD LUCK. Ive only once managed to get a response from ITC via email, 3 months after I originally contacted them.

Ill also point out to you that ITC is much more expensive than Pioneer, try $1000 + more for the same spec. However, Pioneer Computers are not angels either. I had alot of problems with them - delivering wrong spec etc. Mostly fixed now - they do have a nice warranty where a service tech will come to you - quite handy.

Tell us how you get on with ITC's reseller :P

Cheers,

Close mate, but I live 3000kms away in NZ. I posted it in Australian dollars as I thought people were going to go WTF? When they saw NZ dollars.
Anyway the cricket not looking so good for us kiwi's after 2 reasonably close days.

hmmm...raises a lot of other questions too....
we know that the specs on our 8790's from clevo/sager/pctorque are correct and are the same....
but what we do NOT know, is what the next line of resellers are doing with the machines....(such as the reseller in australia or new zealand...)
they might be overclocking this machine on their own, and then selling it, and then who knows...people get the machine and say 'gee, i'm going to overclock this bad boy!' , not knowing it's already been overclocked.....and then you just have to hope we dont get a burnout...*

do these guys have a website? maybe they have some of these particulars posted....

I dont have much of an option though, What more can I do? I want a notebook with 256mb video card, we cant get sager through here. Ultra.co.nz are the ONLY company that sells this laptop.

Funnily enough they only give 1 year Warranty, nothing more.

oh and I must add, i had a little scratch near the power button when I got the laptop, I wondered how a new laptop could get that scratch but I thought it must have been done by the manufacturers so thought nothing about it

Errrr...

OK. The sites listed don't even vaguely represent this as a Sager 8790 - CL have it under a "clevo" menu, and are selling it as a bare bones - eg no HDD, CPU, ODD... so it would "suggest" they are getting them from Clevo directly.

I hate to consider that returned D870P's from other countries are being stripped of their internals and sent down to the backwaters (pity us Aussies and Kiwis!).

Now, as for Mosh - you claim to study law right? Well NZ has probably the worlds best consumer protection. Just return the sucker for a refund.

Next time do a bit more research on the seller of the product... im aware of at least one more reseller in NZ from when I was looking for a pacific-oceania reseller to buy mine. And be aware that some people get a little upset when you represent a foreign quality product as a Sager here...

Good luck.

you could always make buddy buddy with someone in the states or europe...give them the money, have them buy it, then have them ship it to you as a 'gift'
Sounds like perhaps you might have been better to pay a little more and go thru a reputable reseller. I also live in NZ and am looking at damaging my credit card with a 9860 in the next week or so. I was unaware anyone was reselling clevo units in NZ and was going to order direct from PCT. I am aware there will likely be tax issues and any RMA BS is going to be a HEADACHE but was hoping to talk to PCT and see if I can maybe get someone to check my unit for deadpixels and such b4 it ships to me on the other side of the planet. By all accounts PCT sound like they got mad integrity and I figure if I'm gonna blow 6G NZD on a notebook i would rather buy from someone who is not gonna screw me IF the fit hits the shan.

An Update on this thread.

Took the Laptop back to the guys i bought it from, they said they will test the harddrive do and replace it themselves if there is a problem. They said that they actually bought the hard drive and memory so they wont send it to the manufacturers and will get the problem sorted themselves.

I was pissed off when I started this thread, but I will give the guys a chance to replace the faulty hard drive.
Seriously though guys, apart from the scratch everything on the notebook seems good, no dead pixels, the CPU seems excellent. So I dont want to risk asking them to get me a new laptop and find one with a dead pixel.

Glad you're getting it sorted. Hope your the company you used sorts it all out.

also remeber to never put ur HT laptops in Standby mode :-D... unless they fixed that and i just dont know about it X_x
post #35 of 46
how come you can't put a hyperthreading (HT) laptop in standby?
i put my 8790 to sleep quite a bit....(Fn+F4)...never noticed any problems when it wakes back up....

Anyway they found that the hard drive was corrupt, so they are going to replace Hard drive 'A' and ill get it by tommorrow, fingers crossed.

its funny though it was working really really slow for me, but then suddenly it decided to crash all together. I wonder if it was a heat issue, or something like that. The laptop never leaves my couch so i dont think the harddrive would have been damanged through mis handling... quite weird if its heat becuase it might happen again and again.

vanfanel's & Others - It's not a SAGER! Unless it was a used/returned one!

Get some sort of "hard stand" to prevent further damage to you NOTEBOOK (Read -not a Sager) DTR/Laptop computer. Couch cushions are not very healthy to any laptop that intakes from the bottom or exhausts to the bottom of the unit.

Somehow, you should let veryone know that this is NOT a SAGER machine, and if it is, you can tell by the SAGER logo on the top on the machine. If it has NOTEBOOK - it's not a SAGER.

Grrrrr....

i think my friend's 4080 which he bought from pctorque said 'notebook' on the top...he got it in march 2004...

Mine said Notebook on the badge too - and it is definitely a Sager. When I took it in to Sager for them to fix it, I asked them for a Sager badge - he said some resellers request that they don't put the Sager badges on. The most popular reason being so they could put their own badge on it. But most never get around to it. That's straight from Billy at Sager in LA.

Thanks Pyrbobob that should help G-Omaha get over it.
