Doesnt even output a display. Maybe SATA drives arent good after all... or maybe the 9860 need more R&D.

What suggestions do you guys have ??

Thanks lots in advance,

well I did it

Sold the farm morgaged my hinny and traded sexual favors to everyone on the east coast but I got the money to buy this beast . Ok none of that is really true except the part about buying this beast Thanks for all the great reviews and I cant wait to be nukeing some mobs in EQ2 with ya syn. Also one question you said 65 and 68 deg C I converted that to F and that is like 150 degrees so either I am wrong in my conversions or you didnt mean C. Would you mind setting me straight?
lol...she probably meant F or she lives in an oven
post #24 of 92
Perhaps she means the laptop runs at 65degC and her room is 68degF?

68F for my room..laptop is between 50C to 65C depending on how heavy and what im doing.. but that was pushing it to extremes.. gaming temp seems to be about 62C

Edit: Well after not playing games on it for a couple hours and just surfing the boards and chating in IMs.. I discovered idle temps from just doing these things are 48c..

Just poking through your review and thought I would through in a correction. The top is brushed aluminum. Sager used 2 layers of protective coat on the lid of this beast on thin and one thick. You pulled off the thin layer and didn't think about the second. Find one of the corners and peel it up and see the purdy metal under it .

I did a search for it on the boards here til I found a link for it...Its a good program.. I have my little case full of useful programs... heh..

Syn: In your footer you are posting your overclocked benchmarks. Are you always running it overclocked in games? Was it overclocked when you ran FarCry and got 90-100 FPS outdoors. At stock settings I don't get anywhere near that result but our stock benchmarks weren't that far apart. However, I'm using the console command to display FPS and not the program you mentioned in your prior email - Fraps or Frag or something? Possibly a difference? I don't know. Also, you said you were at native resolution, what exactly is that so I can more accurately compare. Maybe I've set my resolution too high. Thanks

Needless to say with so many complaints about EQ2 and the 6800 I was almost ready to put getting this on hold til the ATI card was released. Anyone considering playing EQ2 with this unit, have no fear.. it runs it fine on high settings.. I went to high performance for some areas like graystone where you get 1fps..but this machine handles it just fine.. CPU usage was about 50% on my desktop P4 2.6 it was 90% to 100% usuage... I know everyone's going on about HL2 but I really believe EQ2 is one of the most demanding games out there...

Much like the stuttering you were talking about on the Desktop cards, I get it here and there with a 6800Ultra.....

I have not come to a conclusion for a "real" answer yet.... But so far, 66.93 Nvidia drivers seem to do the trick...
They have lowered my overall benchmark scores, but have done a nice job of getting EQ2 to play "almost" worry free at 1920x1200 on High Settings.... (and 2xAA 8xAF in the Nvidia Control Panel) ...

For PCI Express Cards such as the ones in the Sager, go for the latest and greatest drivers.... They seem to help a bit - Of course my issues go beyond just video... (Long story about a 600mhz boost to my CPU :P)

PS: Oh yeah, the little "Hobbit Holes" in Baubbleshire (sp.!? Reference to picture) It cracks me up going around there and listening to the NPCs.... Zoom your camera all the way out when you enter one of the buildings there Syn... Watching your character nearly decapitate themselves to get into a building is entertaining... - I completed the Qeynos quest, and now I'm bored to tears with the game.. How are you liking it?

Flats Im thinking the results were when the card was over clocked. After I did my last highest bench then I ran the games.. by the way..this card comes clocked at 250/600 but if you unlock forceware, its says the optimize setting is 300/699 heck of a difference.. so thats what im running it at now. But for Far cry im pretty sure it was overclocked at 344/699 or whatever it was I had it clocked at at the time heh.. I don't run it overclocked..overclocking really is for when you need the extra boost.. Right now it handles everything just fine. God I love this machine..have I said that enough? lol

Oh I was using Fraps... Native is the native screen res of 1600/1050...

Tried the new drivers. Now this is my desktop and my husbands..we both have nearly the same set up. He has a huge memory leak with that game. There are hundreds of posts on the eq2 boards over the 6800 and the stuttering issue... people have tried everything, turning off HT, which my desktop doesn't have.. turning off agp fast write..which I dont have in my bios heh.. bunch of other things.. nothings really working.. Then a couple people bought brand new motherboards..especially the ones with the Nvidia chipset and they now play it smoothly. My husband was skeptical about this laptop but after he saw how it performed he's rebuilding his desktop with a AMD64...now he wants to play EQ2 on my laptop..this thing is great.. Im happy to say I haven't had any of those issues everyone else has been having with their desktops..

I should have mentioned im running EQ at native Res.. didn't even realize it myself.. Im doing balanced with shadows on and it looks just amazing... The game does have a memory leak though..It just took longer for me to notice because I have more ram on the laptop then the desktop.. EQ is suppose to be working on this though.. AL im not bored at all.. I dont play constantly though im a mulit tasking person and the P4 HT is fitting that need very well..
