Replacing CMOS Battery

Thread Starter
Has anyone had to replace the CMOS battery in a 5680? Lately mine has been losing the settings when I booot it up. I have to reset the time once every couple days in the BIOS and the memory check runs and then get "Bios checksum error - F1 to continue or f2 to enter setup" The only time I have ever had this before was in a desktop when the CMOS battery was dead. Anyone else had this and had to replace the battery? or is it something else?

Thanks

haven't had to, but I agree with your assessment

hmm i woulda thought when the cmos dried up it would be able to drain some off the main battery.

Nope...the hard part is finding a notebook battary. If I am not mistaken, the 5960 has a fairly standard looking battary, but it has a welded clip that is used to connect the power lead, rather than the typical "contact" mount you find in most desktop motherboards.

So does anyone know what kind to get? Also, where is it? I'm not looking forward to taking my laptop apart trying to find it...the manual does not really help all the much.

Ok, got the cr2032 battery size and it worked. It was really easy to replace, a nice clip to get it out, its right beside the memory in the open. Didn't realize it would be so easy to find.

Firus, thanks for posting. This thread will make it easier to replace the battery in the future.
