My 8886 is locking up while playing music...

Thread Starter
I was out of town working this past week and had my laptop with me, since I use it some configuring network switches. Well, while I was doing some other stuff, I decided to play some of my windows media tunes. I set my laptop down with it plugged in and had the volume at about 90%, also, with the windows media visual effect set at full screen. After about maybe an hour, the music stopped so I checked on it. My laptop seemed to be completely locked up. My desktop was the only thing visible. My task bar was gone. I couldn't turn it off either or reset it. I tried just about everything to reset it or turn it off, but with no luck. I finally had to unscrew my battery and restart it.

Next, bothered by having it lock up so harshly, I decided to see if it would do it again, or maybe figure out the cause. I set it up to do the same thing as before, except with the visual effects not maximized. Same thing happened after 30 minutes or so.

The next day, I did the same thing with it except no visaul effects, and it still locked up.

Also, after it locks up, and after hitting a few keys and trying to close the media player, it gives an error message saying something about an .alg file in /system/. I think. This problem is bothering me. Please, if anyone can help me, please do so.

Should I call Sager?

Thats weird, maybe you can try reinstalling the audio drivers, or the best solution is to format and reinstall windows, that always fixes software problems, but i dont know if your windows came installed or you have a copy of your own...
Anyway, try reisntalling the audio drivers first, also try another player...

[EDIT]
Just fixed where it said video drivers, it should have said audio drivers

Definitely try another player, it could be windows media player... try getting 9 beta for it and using that, it works pretty well. Also, I'm assuming you're doing this on ac power eh? I don't think it would go into standby while playing the song, but there is an option in media player to disable the screensaver... Might take a look at that. It might have tried to standby or something.

go to ...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

and download beta media player 9 (this is a general release candidate, so it's really stable).

had same problems and couldn't make a cd from mp3, kept locking up. installed 9 and everything works great plus a ton of new features.

cheers,
