Countdown to the sager 4750 successor

Its been about 5 months since the sager 4750 was released which makes it high time for a lookout. Recently the sager 9860 was released which kept the intel prescott reasonably cool. If that type of cooling can be accomplished on a prescott, it could be accomplished on a athlon 64. Now I have no idea when the pci express equivelent of the a sager 4750 will arrive, but right now I am curious as to how many people would buy this type of laptop? If its 939 pin configuration its possible that you could get some life out of the laptop and the 64 bit processor would make a difference if coupled with a powerful upgradeable gpu like the nvidia 6800 go. The gpu would not be a bottle neck to future applications because it could be upgradeable. So a system like this could last for much longer than a 32 bit system. If any information wether large or small is hinted at about this system post it here.

It hopefully will be released sometime next year (could be 2006 which would be great for me) and hopefully early in the year. But I have a feeling we will hear more about it in December or January.

socket 939 with an FX-55 would be great...even better if AMD could implement Intel's version of Hyperthreading...

That's exactly what I am hoping/waiting for. I was looking hard at the 4750 when the 9860 came out and I thought "cool, how long can it be till they come out with a AMD 64 version?". So that's what I am watching for now. I prefer linux, so I was REALLY happy to see an NVIDIA card too.

If it takes too long, I will probably just pick up a 9860...

Yes, I'm most definitely in this catagory. A new laptop will mostly run Linux so Nvidia is good but AMD 64 is a must. I'd be happier with the LP AMD 64 though, not much interested in hot laptops with their resulting short component lives.

I'd really like something like the Acer Ferrari with that Nvidia chip, but I'd settle for a DTR with the right components: AMD 64, Nvidia Go 6800, SATA drives, dual PCMCIA slots, top-end optical drive, TV card would be nice too.

Hoping I don't have to resort to getting the 9860, it's okay but my overall gut opinion involves the word "kludge."

Thank you mayaman2 for making this thread - Id love to see a new variation of the 4750 - especially one based on some of new stuff & fixes of the 9860. I will wait till Feb or March to make a final purchase, if by chance they release some new info by then I might hold up more. You really think they would wait till 2006 to release a replacement of the 4750?

I don't think so, but that's around when I would be looking into a new laptop. The pcie express should increase the life of the laptop quite a bit. And as long as they keep up releasing socket 939 which seems to be the best choice for a sucessor since that seems to be where most of the new development seems to have been. It would be intesting if it supported both the socket 734 and 939. Now that would be impressive. I could get it cheaper too because I would be be able to use my athlon 64 3400. But I doubt that's possible. But I can still hope for it.

thats what i would really like, amd 64 and the ati m28. id buy right now if i could get it but i dont want to wait very much longer, so maybe when the 9860 is running at 3.8ghz and has the ati m28 ill pick that up.

who knows when that would be

I am trying to hold-off for the AMD. That 9860 is very tempting though.

A 9860 with an AMD64 would be really nice but i'm worryed it might be too bulky for my needs. A 3790 with a low Voltage AMD64 and PCIe would be nice though.

And on a side note, it looks like AMD is ready to take on Intel's Centrino combo at the beginning of next year.

I think AMD also said that their dual core chips will be supported by all socket 939 boards with a simple bios update. Not sure if they'll make mobile dual core chips, but if they do...

Now a dual core athlon 64 would be a site to see. Hyperthreading couldn't compete with that.

Shut up, shut up, shut up!

I'm already barely able to wait for this computer. Throw in a dual core FX-55 and my head asplode, damn it!

Oh yeah! Put that bad boy in a configuration like the 9860... now THAT would truly be SWEET!

Alright I heard a possible rumour! It seems like alienware will be adding an amd pcie model to their line up sometime in 2005. Since there most current addition is essentially a 9860 this could mean we could hear about this laptop around then as well. It all depends if its a clevo model or not though.

Yeah well after my experience with Alienware, I will wait until Sager puts one out

Would most people prefer a 939 socket successor?

Personally, if I had to choose between 939 and 754, I'd choose 754 only because there are no mobiles availible for 939, and from my inquries to AMD, it doesn't seem as though they intend to make any mobile 939's.

For me, I'd choose the better battery life of the 754 over the ability to have dual-channel RAM and the option of having a FX-55.

Of course, if they offered mobile 939's, it'd be no contest, but they don't, and having a DTR that you could say, use on an airplane without worrying about it running out of power in an hour would be more important to me.
