|The 8887 does not fit in the Pelican (there were some posts on this). If you need hard-case protection, then obviously a "bag" is not what you want.
Well... Whoever said that must of been talking about a different case. The Pelican 1600 is 22" x 17" x 8" empty. The 4760 is 15.5" x 10.8" x 1.7", so thats plenty of room for the laptop, batteries, mouse, CDs, power coord, and whatever else you think you'll need. You have to choose how thick you want the foam cut, and you have to cut where your going to put things, I don't see that being a big deal though.
And whats paranoid about it? Really, I don't understand people spending $100.00 on a bag... The most advanced features i've seen on these things is ripstop nylon, and some small amount of cushioning... At the same time I can get a Pelican 1600 which is safer, more durable, and will last longer for a little bit more money.
I can see someone not wanting to carry around such a heavy case, and the on top of that carrying the laptop which brings total weight near 30 pounds, but you can get wheels or a strap for it if you want. I don't have to make long trips from place to place though. And the thing being dust/water proof is a HUGE pluss for me since in the winter it rains real heavy where I live, I won't have to worry about walking around outside with it, and in the summer it is incredibly dusty and it gives me a great static free, clean place to store the laptop.
P.S. If anyone else out there is thinking about getting a Pelican case, make sure to get the Anti Static foam.
