My new Asus Powerbook

Thread Starter
I've always been quite fond of the simplicity of the Macintosh OS, even though the programs I run require Windows.

And I'm quite fond of my Asus M6bne.

I was bored today so I decided to combine them.

Check out the pics below.

It's not, of course, actually running OSX, but rather a program called FlyakiteSP1, for which you can find a review here:

http://aquaxp.com/index.php?p=26

The docking bar is ObjectDock which is available here:

http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/

The Mac OS appearance is purely cosmetic, although it does seem to run slightly faster, but the dock is very handy.

I was going to just try it out and go back to standard XP, but I like the look and will probably will keep it for a while.

Cheers

Thanks for the programs. I didn't know they existed. I DL'd ObjectBar and love it. Currently DL'ing Flyakite. We'll see how that goes. Just wanted to say thanks.

I finished DL'ing Flyakite, but am having trouble getting it to work. I am not CPU savvy and have no idea what the following paragraph means which is the 3rd step in the redme file:

"Also, you need a system file replacement, of course The replacement files need to go into the _source folder. If the replacement files come in the form of an installer, you need to extract the files somehow to be of any use."

What does that mean? What is a system file replacement? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Vit

I think I screwed up my CPU. I want to restore my old settings, so when I run restore from Flyakite- it doesn't work. Now what? Do I need to re-install windows?

VitB6,

I've never had any problems with Flyakite. I would try doing a system restore using the WIndows System Restore function. Just pick a date before you installed Flyakite.

What is the exact problem?

i installed flyakite about a month ago, looks amazing, love the simplicity, but now my computer is like, all messed up. I cannot leave it idle for longer than 10 min else it will freeze and also get some Windows errors that critical systems files have been replaced with the original version and can either stick with these ones or somehow restore the old ones. I'm assuming that is because it changes some major config stuff to replace the boot screen/toolbar/icons/folder names, etc. but its really quite annoying and i'm about to reformat. Anyone have any insight as to what causes this and how to possibly prevent it in the future? Thanks.

I still use Object Dock but couldn't be bothered reinstalling Flyakite on my new Sony. There is a new version out which is suppoed to be much easier on your system.

You could try asking your question here:

Flyakite is somewhat buggy. Some people have had good experiences with it though. I recommend using separate programs for what Flyakite does though.
I use: Objectdock, Trillian Pro (iChat), WMP (iTunes skin), inconpakager (to replace system icons), rainmeter (system monitor), rainlender (desktop calender), Lclock (skins the clock).
I like objectdock better than yzdock and mobydock. Why? One word: Flyout menus (check the screenies for examples of flyout menus).

Here are a couple screens, I like the look of OSX Tiger, so I used kol's tiger skin w/ the winflag option. Its basically XP with an OSX flavor to it. I didn't want to do a complete conversion of XP to OSX look. Hope you guys like it.

I highly recommend www.osx-e.com for everything you need to get a little OSX flavor on your desktop. This site provides links and tutorials for everything you need to get started and screenshots of other peoples desktops.

moby dock is the most useless thing ive ever seen for windows when QUICK LAUNCH is already built in for the same purpose
