That aint bad ... if you could get the price down a little with coupons etc it would be a sweet machine - is it shipping?

Toshiba says 1 to 2 weeks ship time.

The only negatives I see are this:

1) the screen resolution isn't high enough

2) the video card isn't a 128 meg 5600 go or M10-P.

Everything else is perfect. However, once you add bluetooth, 3-in-1 card reader, usb floppy, etc. you are hovering around $3100 to $3200. For that much I can get a fully loaded centrino based Dell M60 with a Quadro FX card. Tough choice.

Too darn big....though worth a look at.

I don't know, the specs on that machine looks awefully like the 4760's. I hope the battery life is better though.... For that price, it had better be!

For that price man wait for the 8890 and sacrifice an inch of screen space for a better res 16inch

the guy @ compusa said that laptop was awesome, but they were sold out when i went there

Yeah I wish they would have implemented a higher video card . Perhaps offer a customize option for those customers that might want to have the latest out and for those who just want something basic to fulfill their needs.

It is 800FSB though right? That is a real good plus side to getting that laptop.

Since it doesn't say CASV display I am assuming it doesn't have it, but this has been said before. Apparently alot of people think highly of the 1440 x 900 resolution even with the 4760 a couple of people fell in love with it after they received their model after being somehwhat skeptical themselves.

i saw the older model of this... yes there are two models. It's a very good looking screen but kind of stupid design of the whole thing.. it also is kinda thicker than the 4760. I can't wait till i get my hands on the 4760.

Yeah I don't really like the design of it either. With the exception of the 4760 Sager models are pretty ugly. What really surprised me is just how important having an aesthetically pleasing laptop is for some of the people on these boards. I remember reading threads for people who wanted to go through another company solely because they could get some type of color customization option.

I also think that the majority of people on the forums think that is a real minor issue in return for the sheer power you are getting with a Sager laptop, but think it would be a nice option to be able to select color if it were available but don't justify paying hundreds of dollars for it.

When I was analyzing the S707 for purchase, I was primarily concerned with screen quality/performance etc , but the look of it did come up as mostly towards the bottom of the list of priorities. I really like the design of the S707 , and seeing it in person is alot different then seeing jpeg's online. Although alot of people have seen it in person and still don't like it, It is all preference.

I went to CompUSA to look at the new Toshiba P25-S507 to see how the screen resolution looked on the 17" screen. I just ordered a 4760 and was concerned about the screen resolution but after seeing the Toshiba I was pretty pleased. I would prefer a higher resolution but all in all in wasn't bad. I don't like the fact that Toshiba didn't include a dedicated numeric pad like Sager did. With all that space it seems like they could have fit it into their design. I believe the 4760 is alot better value as my cost with shipping was just over $2,400. The Toshiba P25-S607 due out in about 2 weeks has the media center OS and 64 MB video card with a price tag of about $2,700 without taxes or shipping.

My 4760...
3.06 w/ HT
1 Gig of Memory
ATI Radeon 64 MB 9000 Video Card
6 in 1 Card Reader
DVD -r/-rw burner
533 FSB (Toshiba P25-607 Model has 800 FSB)

The Toshiba looks nicer but that isn't important to me. I would rather have performance over a nice case desgin.

One interesting thing I noticed about the P25-S607 and others in the line is that Toshiba is using PC2100 (DDR266) ram. The 865PE supports DDR400/333/266. So my question is this:

1) does it perform any better with DDR400 versus the stock DDR266?

The other questions I have for Toshiba:

1) Is the video chipset on a separate board which is replaceable or upgradable? So would I be able to buy the Go 5600 and pop it in there (from the 5200 series)?

2) How do acess the second ram slot? (one is accessible on the bottom, where is the other one?)

3) Is the processor user upgardeable (even if it voids the warrenty, is it possible)?

Dont its not meched in this thred but the 28GHz prosseser is HT enabled.
I order the P25-508 version the one with XP pro 2 weeks ago and it hasnt come in yet it is supoed to be shiping in 3-4 weeks cince i bought it. the strange thing is the one with xp home is shiping now and the os is the only thing differnt between the computer.
i was going with a sager untill i saw it. and i could get it wil on sight repair which is nice for a college student.
ill let you know how it performs.
