Installing video drivers

Hey guys,
Kind of a newb here on installing aftermarket drivers. I have an M11 and I'd like to upgrade to the best drivers for it for optimized frame rates and best performance, I guess I should go with the newest omegas? I have em downloaded and ready to install, but I just wanted to see if I could get a nice step by step write up on the procedure, since I want to do this right and not screw everything up. Thanks in advance.

One thing i hate about Omega's is that it restricts your resolution, the maximum will be 1440x900, you wont be able to go above that. Some may argue why would you need to go above that?
Anyway:

-Download the Omega's
-extract the file until you see another exe
-run the exe file
-select the defaults all the way through in the settings for opengl etc (it wont really matter what you select unless you want to play the old counterstrike with opengl)
-select yes to overrite the newer files (if asked)
-everything should be installed and it should ask you to reboot your PC
-once rebooted change your resolution back to 1440x900, go to settings turn AA (right click desktop, properties -> settings then the 'advanced' tab down below. -> direct3d (or something similar) then set to custom and turn AA and AF on to the MAX)

and really thats about it

Ok, sounds easy enough, should I get rid of the old drivers before hand?

Well usually the installer does that for you and reboots your PC i think. I never remove the older drivers and never had problems installing the newer ones.

I installed my omega's last night. I see a large fps increase in gaming, and also more resolutions are available so i can play games in widescreen format. When you run the omega driver installer it will tell you to go to control panel>add/remove programs and remove the ATI toolbar (I think that was it... they say exactly) and then you just install, restart your computer and viola! I have a 4750 and dvd playback became choppy because of the new drivers but i just updated to bios 1.03 and that fixed it. Goodluck.

On the subject of new drivers, I just installed the Omega 25.90 on my Sager 5690. I now notice that my display is dim on boot up. I have to go into the settings and increase my brightness. This works until I boot up (cold) and I have to do it again. It is not saving my screen brightness selection. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
By the way I went back to the 25.44 and it still does it now.

what drivers do you recomend for the 6800 go?

i would recomend the dna drivers... to me they are better than the omegas! and they don't have that strange resolution problem...

Hi -- I have an 8790 and have been using the Omegas (they work well for me). I went to the dna drivers site, but don't really know what I'm looking for there. Do they have a set that works on an 8790 (with the Radeon Mobility 9700 256MB? )

Thanks!
