noisey fans, high pitched noise,white line on lower res games

area-51m , silver 15.4" lcd , 60 gig harddrive , ati 9700 , 1 gig pc3200 ram ,

I can hear this thing running from 2 rooms away is that normal. there is also this small high piched noise being produced, cant say really whats making sounds like the fan. i had call tech support about this problem and they had me open it up twice to take a look, but to no avail. one of the techs did say that he could hear the fans running over the phone while is was talking to him. then asked would i like to send it back for repairs , i complied and he said that he would e-mail me the details about how to do this . that was friday night it is now monday night. to be honest im sick sick of ringing these guys they never call back. im in ireland so maybe their support base which alienware have here are sub-par , idont know.
also when playing games in a lower res there is always a white line down at the bottom of the display. it only goes away at the native res. does anyone else have this.
i love this system but do not really want to hold on to it if its defective. i have only 8 more days before the 15 day money back garantee runs out. i feel lie they are stalling me.
i dont know what to do . any suggestions

sounds likey you have a fan problem, sucks you just got it too and now you have to wait.. how does these things pass QA?? thats what i would like to know

ya its def a fan problem, it sounds pretty much the same running doom 3 as it does when its doing nothing.
on there 14 phaze thingy its jumped about 7 phazes in about 2 days. i dont really think that there supposed qa perfection is as ridged as they say it is.
its really a pity cause i love this thing and im going to have to send it back for refund i think.
the fans are one thing but that white line during gaming is a right pain, cause really this machine cant handle doom 3 or the newer games at the native res. there run alright but a bit choppy.

Nadalife,The white line. I have that my self. Had it when I had me 9600, shipped it in. They put a new mobo in. Then I was able to get the 9700. Purchesed that. With the 9700 it dint come back with the white line. I thought , "wow it fixed". Anyways recently I noticed it was back when I was not in the native res. its cuz I upgraded the drivers from the AW 8.03 to the 8.05. I then did some test with diffrent drivers. And it ends up this is a item specsific to the 15.4 wide screen cuz of it ratio. Something with the way the drivers are made, and the way they are made to span the screeen. Anyways I use 1024x768 for all my res. Just seems to be the res I like. Does it with the stock ATI drivers moded for mobil, does it with the Omega drivers, then I tried the DNA 4.10 (8.07) drivers at www.guru3d.com . Now I ahve no white line. If you try this to see if it will correct your issue. Do not try the DNA 4.11 drivers or the DNA 4.12B drivers. There is still issues with them and the mobil cards and freezing.
If you wish to try the DNA 41.0 (8.07) DRv hear is the link ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=898 ) DO to the bottem and click on a D/l linik and give it a shot.

Dont forget to make a restore point before you d/l them. And most importantly after restore point, uninstall all ATi drivers and software in contral panel- Add and remove programs. Then run this CAT-Uninstaller ( http://www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe ) . THen restart then you all set to place the DNA drivers on. On stock settings with the DNA drv, no over cloacking I was geting 3487, or somehting with in a few point of that on 3d marks.

Thanks for that mate.
I had thought that that issue with the white line had something to do with the widescreen aspect.
well if that was the only issue i would be happy right now, but i appears thats my area-51m went totally off the wall yesterday and decided to be in a never ending cycle of increasing brightness then dark then bright again. even in the bios so it wasnt software specific.
so i just sent it back for a refund today.
i cant say that im really happy about giving it back, i dont know what the hell im gonna get now. here in ireland the only other big computer company is dell. god im so sick of having a dell computer, but it looks like its heading that way again. see alienware dont do on-site service here, dell do, so thats a definite factor in my next purchase.
