anyone else have this happen?

8886, purchased 12/2002

tried to boot from battery and as soon as logged in to machine shuts off with no warnings.

so I plugged in power supply, booted, unplugged power. machine runs for about 10 mins going from 100% to 79% then machine shuts off with no warnings. can't reboot without plugging in power supply and then battery reads 75% - charging.

my thinking is battery is fried, other thoughts?

cheers,
kirk

Strange, yes I would guess something is wrong with the battery. Give Sager a call on that.

Might I also suggest researching "Battery Conditioning" either here or on google.

Do you normally use battery power? Or are you an "AC" type of user?

mostly AC. should take better care of battery but figure why should i do sagers job. laptops should cycle batteries when unit is not in use like at night when no use detected, switch to battery, gets to critical then switch back to AC.

While that's a nice idea (self-cycling laptop batteries) it doesn't happen to ANY rechargable battery in any device.

#1 it's a hazzard (fire, electrical, chemical, etc.) so it should NOT be run w/o human involvement.

#2 Is it really SAGER's job to maintain YOUR property? I thought it was their job to provide quality equipment and back them up should they break (ie warranty).

I wish Mitsubishi would do their job and come tune my Montero every other month, but alas, I still have to actually do that myself...

Whether the problem with the switching off while on battery has been resolved? How? What was the reason of this problem?

One of our customers complains that he has the same problem with his NP2720 model.

If the laptop is gunna be plugged in and running or a long period of time...(week or so) is it best to take the battery out or leave it in?
Its best to leave it in the machine. However, its a good idea to give the battery an occasional workout. Unplug it at least once a month (per the user's manual) and let it drain to as low as you can. I go all the way, saving my work just before it dies. I do that at least two or three times a week. While it may seem like a huge pain in the ass, its no more than changing your oil, replacing your smoke detector batteries or taking an occasional shower.

If you have battery problems have Sager replace it. I've had laptops for years and the biggest problems are with the batteries.
