Would anyone be interested in a review of this system? Might be a new one for me to waste my money on in order to illuminate the community

What are the specs on that one Unleaded? I havent heard much of it...

Mobile AMD64
Radeon 9700 128mb
Specs stipulate DDR333 support (from Asus - it's derived from the A2000K) but I've seen elsewhere that it supports DDR400 (might just run at 333 though)
15.1" SXGA+
1watt speakers plus 2watt subwoofer

etc., etc.

I'd be curious, yes.

Unleaded- from time to time there is some confusion about the bus running at 400mhz while the ram is only 333mhz... that one got me. Still confuses me, to be honest!

Shoot up a review though, that would be great. Good to see they came out with an A64 model.

I think the issue here is that from what I can glean from Asus' site that the Bus is actually running at 333MHz and thus support for DDR400 would only allow it to run at DDR333 speeds...perhaps a test/review would clarify this. My distrib has also confirmed official support of only up to 1GB of DDR RAM. Many other systems have claimed this and have done fine with 2GB...hard to say.

Just got confirmation from Asus that it DOES only support DDR 333 up to 1GB

Ok, got some accurate pics of the system...lots of inaccurate ones floating around:

Full system specs for your information:

RJTech.com seems to have a black model up, barebones under 1G. (unlike the silver one u have posted pics of).

Very Sexy indeed....and it does look like a new version on the CL56??

Whats the battery life like on the AMD mobils?

RJtech pics are based on the a2000k model. Looks like the Asus Z80k in the States will be the dark silver that Unleaded posted.

Battery life should be between 2-3 hours depending on use.

so is this lappy on the market yet then...or coming soon?
Yes, it's available now

RJTech's information is based to a degree on speculation it would seem. He's taken some of the information about the A2000K which the Z80K was adapted from and made some tweaks to the specs which are not entirely accurate. His picture, as CoffeeShark stated, is of the A2000K, the Z80K gets a different treatment, largely in the color if nothing else.

I wanted to make sure I had the correct information before sharing it with our beloved community

All the above, pics and spec sheet are straight from Asus.

Side note. Asus' testing information on the A2K/Z80K stipulates that ONLY Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 62w processors are approved.

not too shabby.

but it's MASSIVE

Not sure that I've seen overwhelming interest in a review of this system. At least not enough to necessarily warrant buying/building/testing and then having to find someone to buy it from me

Just to clarify a bit. The correct wording should be that "it DOES only support DDR333 SPEEDS up to 1GB". It should support any DDRI SoDIMM PC2700 and above, but anything above PC2700 will be run at PC2700 speeds.

That is correct NovaShine. You can go ahead and slap DDR400 in there, but it will only run at DDR333. I should point out however, that in some cases, DDR400 doesn't work in such a scenario, so you might want to be careful about that.

Another clarification. Asus just updated me that 81.5W AMD Athlon 64 Mobile processors ARE supported. This is fortunate given that the 62W Mobile AMD Athlon 64s (nomenclature is so confusing - mobile at the beginning or at the end ) are near impossible to find atm.

i've done some research and i think the difference between the asus z80k and the a2000k is the chipset. The z80k is a nvidia crush but the a2000k is a nforce3 go150. I think the latter supports DDR400. Just speculation, not very sure... haha

yeah another thing... i thought for amd the fsb is core dependent? why do people say it runs at 333 or 400 mhz? It should be higher right? like the core speeds...
