NVIDIA driver update

Hi I have a toshiba 2410 notebook and had the earlier post on the problem with system restore and no replies. I hope that someone out there has some comments on this topic, quite some time back there was a M$ update for the NVIDIA driver and I downloaded and had a lot of problems. Since my system restore I took the box to my trusted tech as I had to use my cd's to start back fresh so that I didn't have the M$ updated driver.
At that time Toshiba told me not to download anything to do with drivers from M$ download from their site only. I have checked it from when I purchased the notebook one year this past february and there has been no changes posted to my notebook model site.
Have any other members noticed this and it is a characteristic of toshiba????
My M$ updates still shows that there is a driver update available But toshiba tells me only their updates for their notebooks will work properly, don't try it again, and I won't because the last time it caused me a lot of problems. I hope to get some responses to this queston. Thankyou.
Life would be a lot simpler, if the system restore option did work.

I would not use the MS download site for any driver updates for any computer. Only update drivers for a reason, not just because a new one comes out. Generally use only the Toshiba drivers specific for your Toshiba system. Some will use video drivers that are tweaked but use at your own risk. If you do use other video drivers like Omega just know how to go back to a know stable, working driver version in case the newer driver doesnt work right.

I'm currently running the 66.81 display drivers with a modded .inf which also allows for Sideband addressing. Haven't gotten around to modding the 66.93's yet. Also using Riva Tuner to overclock (or underclock in case of the nVidia specs) my 32Mb 5200 to 225/445 (not very spectacular when my workstation's 5900 Ultra runs at 525/945).

NVIDIA driver update

If there are updates for these drivers why doesn't toshiba develop their own for their products. It simply does not seem right that a person spends a lot of money on what is conceivably a good product and drivers are updated and none are issued for toshiba.
Do other models get updates on their support site? I haven't had any since I bought my box in February 2003? I guess what I am asking is if this is the only model that toshiba is not updating in their support site?
I look forward to comments.

tucker, the issue for Toshiba is Tech support costs.
The driver they want you to use is the most compatible, trouble free one.
Not the fastest or best.
A new video driver is a easy way to hang your system. and can create a flood of Tech support calls.

It's all about Cost / Benefit.
And a Tech supports Cost effective motto:
If it is not broke ... don't fix it.And if you have a "must" run all the time Computer ... that motto will work well for you too. (it works for me ... now that I am older and wiser)
* I have learned to resist my "primal" urge to tweak.
A simple and CLEAN system seems to run the fastest, with LESS problems.

There seems to be so many things that could go wrong when you go into Sleep and Hibernate ... and a Notebook does this more often than a Desktop.
As jff1625 pointed out ... Notebook vendors rarely post video driver updates ... this might be a reason why .... unless it is to solve a major problem (Vendors almost never post a driver to optimize speed)
