9200 Reviwe - Page 5

sweeeeet! I love the 200008.jpg pic! nice to see just how much can fit on that bog ol screen.

How light and mobile does it feel? Is it something you could carry around without breaking your back? If not, is the problem the weight or the size or both?
Hmm....

All this talk about the type of screen has gotten me to think if I made the wrong decision in choosing the UXGA. I tried doing 1280x 1024 on my desktop screen and it hurts my eyes a lot........ I hope things turn out ok

Thanks for the nice pics by the way. Hope you guys enjoy is. ^_^

the 9200 weighs only 7.7 - 8.3 lbs right? that's very very very very light for a notebook that has dvd-rw, 9700 pro, 17" monitor capabilities...

that's also as much as an 8600 weighs...

yea, i run my 19" desktop monitor at 1024x768, so uxga was out of the question for me...xga will be perfect.

Man the WUXGA is going to be 'super small' after looking at the WXGA+ desktop.

Glad I ordered WXGA!

And and tell us how well it runs HL2!

And tell us about the heat!

Love the pictures by the way! Looks..well, huge! hehehe
post #89 of 183
I did a quick benchmark with 3dmark 2001se and I got around 11,400
Default with the latest Omega drivers.
The lappy is running cool.
I'll get to HL2 tommorrow..
I changed out the HD for a Hitachi 60GB 72k and put a GB of ram in and
reinstalled the o.s.
I'm really getting impressed with the 9200, she's pretty sweet.

ugh, this thing has a built-in subwoofer too? i hate allo f you 9200 owners... so jealous.

i would have been so on this notebook if it was out during that 750 off coupon shopping spree bonanza was on.

the machine is very very inexpensive too. without any coupons or anything, i got it down to $1,537...

man, if i could only sell my 8600 for $1,100

BGD:

I think a problem might be finding a laptop backpack to fit the 9200. I've been looking everywhere for a nice backpack to fit the i9200, and it's pretty darn hard. The selection is very limited.

First off, I want to say thank you to those of you that have posted pictures. I can tell you it that we all enjoy them very much.

Now, I wanted to re-post some questions that have been posted already. To take some time off of your hands without digging through the last few pages of posts. I will also add a few of my own ideas and questions.

[1] How well does the i9200 run web development programs? (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash MX, etc)

[2] How well does the ATI 9700 play games? -- Particularly HL2.

[3] Have you heard the fans(s) turn on yet? If so, are they quiet? Do they both come on and did it take quite a bit of activity for them to turn on?

[4] How mobile does it fell? Is light considering its size? Does it fell at all overweight?

Thanks to all of you who bought one of the first i9200 in the USA to receive them. I can’t thank you enough.

9200 looks really really NICE compared to my old returned 8600. Looks like their quality assurance team learned lot from old line of inspirons and improved them on new line of inspirons. The way it looking. They gonna release new 8700 looking like 9200, XPS gen 2, looking like 9200 and so on. It makes perfectly sense....

#1 I can't say don't use those programs.

#2 Games very well..
I played HL2 for a good 30mins and I never heard the fans in the 9200 spinning, until after I quit the game. But the sound is muffled, not loud.
I ran the game 1440X900 Widescreen.
I ran Counterstrike source and did the video stress and got 41.94fps @ 1440X900 W/S
Over all games pretty nice

#3 Fans aren't loud

#4 Not as heavey as it looks.

#5 This laptop is starting to kick ASS

I'm so psyched. My 9200 just shipped. I'm going to get it on Monday and I promise to write a good review, especially concerning Photoshop, Macromedia Studio, etc. (I'm a web designer and photographer). And Far Cry, of course.

But can we solve this strange driver issue? Does Dell really not send out a Driver CD? How does one get all the correct drivers, then, if some aren't listed on the web site either? I want to be able to get this thing and format it right away, but if I can't get the drivers....

Anyhow thanks to all those who are taking time away from playing to help out those of us who are so close yet so far. Keep 'em comin!

Here's my settings..
Res. 1440X900 W/S 16:10
model detail: high
texture detail: high
water detail: simple reflection
shadow setting: high
shader detail: high
AA: none
vsync: enabled
Latest Omega drivers
On my gateway the 412 drivers wouldn't run at the native res.
I wonder if this lappy would have the same problem?
