Dell Order Status Question

Thread Starter
Hi, I ordered a i8600 on the 23rd of November (Tuesday) and it is now "In Production".

When I click on the "In Production" tab, it shows the four phases.

How can I find out which phase it is in? I have seen when people are discussing their order that they mention the phase it is in.

Do the Order Status systems differ from different regions? i.e. I'm in Australia so that would be Asia-Pacific - would Northern American customers use a different system?

Here are two screenshots you can compare between the two countries and know what I am talking about.

Thankyou

Hi there...

Yep. I was wondering about that too as I don't see any indication of kitting/build etc.

Actually it really makes me wonder if the status stuff is just setup to make the customer see/feel something is happening and the PC's/Notebooks are not just sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting for the courier to pick 'em up!

I think it is all BS. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Cheers Chook from Sydney!

Maybe that green shaded section next to it means something? Or does the actual text light up? Or doesn't it at all? Maybe our fellow Asia-Pacific customers could help us

Akumas,

> Or does the actual text light up?

No nothing at all happens. I've just gone through watching the status and cancelled the order on the day just before delivery (yesterday).

The reason is because a much better deal came out on the 700m

Cheers Chook.

Ok... Then how do people know what Phase it is in? I hear some people say stuff like "My notebook is in "Testing" etc..
I called Dell and listened to all the options, but I couldn't find one for "Order Status"

I call the Dell Home Customer Care line. Order status should be in there somewhere under "Make a purchase, get pricing info or complete an online order".

If not, try some of the other relevant options.

Good luck!

Hi, thanks for that Demo.

But, I am suprised that no one has replied regarding the Order Status page online. I just wanted some clarification. Are the phases highlighted or something?

On the Dell America page, the update Looks different. Instead of the nice pictures, we get Formatted text.

Pre-Production

In Production

Kitting
Building
Testing
Boxing

Shipped

When a step is completed, we get a check mark beside that step, and then the current step that it is on is highlighted. It seems that on a system that isnt backed up, all the steps are completed within one day up to "Boxing" where it sits for 2-3 days. So I'm not sure how Australia's page works, but that's how I know what step it's in. Also, the phone system will tell you, if you call here.

Thankyou for your reply Saberj.
Does anybody know if Dell Asia Pacific (I'm in Australia) has a simmilar system where you can telephone them and use an automated system to check the status?
I checked online again a few minutes ago and it's the same status as yesterday.

Akumas,

Don't worry!

Very soon the Delivery Prep will pop-up with a BIG tick, bypassing any info in the "In-Production".

Cheers Chook

EDIT: BTW your specs look very nice

Thanks mate
How long does it take for the first 3 phases to complete? I'm taking a guess that it is "Boxing" now *cough* On its way to AU now.. Do they use Australia Post? And do we get a tracking number?

Sorry for all the questions, have a good evening.

Ha ha!!!!

Well done Chook

What where the specs of the systems you cancelled and ordered?
Also, what is the current status of the system you've ordered on the same date as mine?

Cheers and have a good weekend everyone!

Lucky Chook! I see the order you cancelled only took a day to build and test
post #17 of 61
I think the only thing that really shows anything is the Baxglobal delivery page. It shows you what stage of delivery it is in. That is the only one that I watched like a hawk for 2.5 days!

Hmmm ...well seeing you asked!

The first one I had ordered was:

DELL 700m
AUD $1826.00
1.6 Pentium M
512meg RAM
30 Gig HD
DVD/CD RW
8 cell battery
This one included
- $300 discount
- free double RAM (256->512).

I cancelled that and ordered this:

DELL 700m
AUD $1898.60
1.8 Pentium M
512meg RAM
60 Gig HD
DVD/CD RW
4 cell battery
This included
- 25% discount
- Free 128MB Memory Key

If you look today (as today is the "last day"), it's the middle one here: 700m

If you noticed the negative thing (depends on how you use it), I decided to just get the 4 cell battery instead of upgrading to the 8 cell battery. Although, that only cost and extra AUD $28.60.

I will using 95% between home and office so I really don't care about the battery life too much. I can always get another later.

Extras that I will buy are:

LINKSYS Wireless-g Broadband WRT54G Router..AUD $128.00
STM Powerbook Glove - 12 inch......................AUD $39.00
Logitech Mouse V500 Cordless Notebook...........AUD $86.00
Delivery......................................................AUD $10.00

From this shop: City Software

One thing is that I really need to compare the Apple Powerbook to see if the DELL 700m will fit in the 12 inch Powerbook Glove.

Ohhhh and BTW my STATUS page (dates) are exactly the same as yours that you had posted above.

Cheers Chook

Damn mine is still "In Production" at 5.50pm Friday arvo ...seem to remember on the other one it was stuck there for a while, then the next time I looked, all of them were ticked right through to "Shipped".

BTW it remains to be seen if a better deal comes out and I even cancel this one!!!

I wonder how many orders other people have gone through doing this?

Cheers Chook

Thanks for the reply and clarification MitchellO & Chook

So, Chook - who do you think will receive theirs first? I think me as I'm in Perth (closer to Malaysia versus Sydney) - and you Sydneysiders already get enough stuff

Heh, have a good weekend mate - regarding that, do they produce laptops on the weekend?
