well you are correct there prices did change, it would be 1789.00 for the same system i just got a few hours ago still a good deal.

i check with my other system so there must be a cookie in this one
post #84 of 142
yea, looks like it went up like $200+

that's what I get for hesitating...
Wow, that really sucks. I had my finger on the trigger too!

Now back to indecision!
What the F###!!! I just called Viciouspc and they told me the price is wrong on the site. Everything is suppose to be 200 bucks more. But for people that bought it earlier they are making it 90 bucks more. Still not that big of a deal - 200 dollars cheaper now instead of 300 from anywhere else. Im still gonna go with it.
well i tend to agree if they back out the price not a deal any longer.
I look ele's where if they do. I not good bis to add charges after sale has been made.
I spoke with them on the phone on Tuesday and they did not mention any issue with the price. I expect them to honor the price shown at checkout. For the rest of you, even at $200 more, mine would have been a significant savings.
bait and switch. classic. oops no the price on the website is wrong sorry . . .

I would steer clear of them. you know the old addage: if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
Well, darnit, I got my call. They said that the webmaster set it up with the price $200 to low. The intended to split that with the customer and still offer a 10% discount, so the result was that the price was $90 more. I am continuing on as they are still $300 cheaper than the next cheapest alternative and I don't want to wait any longer.

I asked her if the webmaster made a mistake and had it priced $200 to high and I committed to pay that, would them be calling me to coordinate my refund? She didn't have an answer. I am going to chalk it up as an honest mistake. Sounds like they go deluged with orders. If they are offering quality merchandise and a good price, I don't want to see them take a beating.

I was a bit disappointed that when I called her Tues to confirm my order, she said it would ship next Wed or Thurs. Today she said early Jan. I told her that I would be more upset about that than the price change, she said that she would try a rush.

We shall see.

I Concur

I got the same thing done to me But as you say, it is still significantly cheaper than it would anywhere else (I also went ahead and specced out a Sager 3790 with similar specs for comparison and it turned out 200+ dollars more expensive as well!)

So, yes I believe it was an honest mistake, and I am extremely happy with my purchase. What I am waiting for now is for the review and heating upgrade walkthrough from Captain Al!

legal?

same thing happened to me. i'll stay with the price since it is still good, but does anyone know the legality of cancelling an order if the customer does not agree to pay extra, after the sale has already been made? the pricing mistake might have been an honest mistake, but on the other hand this has been a very slow holiday season and a pricing mistake is a good way to make some quick sales. either way i'm thinking about filing a complaint with the ftc and the better business bureau

Most sites/companies have an errors and omissions policy. You would have to prove the bait and switch.
push that errors and omissions logic too far and the online contract becomes illusory (non binding on anyone). If I had ordered it I would have considered it a binding contract at that price. though legally I might be right, suing them to compel them to honor the contract as quoted would not generally be cost effective. one of those situations where I would tell clients, you are right but you are still screwed. There would be the possibility of making a lawsuit cost effective through bringing a consolidated action of multiple plaintiffs, but I suspect it would be quite difficult to get a lawyer interested in doing that. I think the FTC and bbb route, plus maybe a comment or two on resellerratings.com is the best response. I really don't think you can safely give them the benefit of the doubt. when you post a comment though, you should include their offered explanation for what it is worth. a vendor with a stronger reputation might have more credibility than this one. call me a cynic but there are just too many slimeballs in the world, especially on the internet. if I had blown off a limited time opportunity to take advantage of some sweet deal on a different laptop (like say a Dell deal of the week) and the other offer expired while I was fooling around with the wrong price on the vicous laptop, then I would be really pissed. rather curious how a "mistake" like this could even happen?

Why do the heating upgrade? Captain Al only had problems when he tried to clock up the default GPU speed which is BEYOND the Uniwill design specs.

yeah, Uniwill Spec is 400 / 216 for the Video, which by most standards is a little low... Of course, they tried to make up for it with 256Mb of RAM - Which in some games it helps, (like EQ2, Doom3, etc) where others, it doesn't....

My cooling upgrade is not complete yet due to waiting on parts, and the holiday....

After the 1st of the year, I'll have all the guides and things on my website.
My site and forum is controversial to NBF here apparently, so I am unable to post it in either Threads or PMs (you know, it's a mark of success when somebody goes out of thier way to silence you!)

Either way, updates to come after the holiday.

Merry Christmas everybody!

For those of us still deciding between the 3790 and the Uniwill, rather than the Vicious conspiracy, can we get back to the point of this thread?

I fo 1 am still very undecided and was wondering if any 1 (Esp, AI and others who have experienced both) Would like to reiterate or expound on certain comparisons of these two systems.. The price is just about even from what i see on comparable configs..

Happy Holy Days!
I would take the Uniwill for Asthetics more than anything -
Performance-wise on benchmarks they are about dead even...

The difference here with the added 256Mb of Video Ram, is games like Doom, EQ2 and HL2, will run a little smoother.

Synthetic Benchmarks can not prove that to you one way or another, it's just a matter of REAL WORLD performance..

I do get tired of listining to people on how 3Dmark Scores mean everything... They don't... What really matters is real world performance, can the system run the things you want it to, anddo it well.... If you can answer yes to that, then you're set..

As far as between the systems, I've had time to play with both, and I still say Uniwill, the only advantage of the 3790 over the Uniwill is the WUXGA screen, and lets face it, if you intend to do any type of gaming on these machines, that is just a BAD idea to go with the WUXGA. The M9700 is a good GPU, but not to the point of making a game playable with any form of eye candy at 1920x1200...
