Please Help! Battery problem!

Well, I have a 200ARC and have had no problems thus far except for now.
Recently, I've had problems with battery life.
The battery seems to charge way too fast and discharge even faster.
Fully charged it only lasts 30 mins or so when usually I would get over an hour and half!
Also, the 5 leds that show charge on the battery itself is acting funny.
When I push the button to check the charge, the 1st, 3rd, and 5th leds just blink and doesn't actually show the charge.

Now, I'm assuming that something is wrong with the battery.
My question is, is there something I can do to rejuvenate it or recondition the battery?
Also, what went wrong? Was it something I did? (ie, keep charging it too much? From my understanding LiIon batterys should be able to be constantly charged.)

Thanks for the help!

Oh, does anyone know how much a new battery is?

Thanks for the link littleman.

Any idea whats wrong with my battery?
Anyway to fix it at all?

I've had this computer for about a year and half.
Why would the battery go bad like that?

This may answer your battery problem. But this is for the Gateway M505X/XL model, but I guess it relates to all lithium batteries.

Optimizing battery life
This section helps you get the most out of battery operation. Optimizing battery
life prolongs the charge/recharge cycle and improves recharge efficiency. Follow
these suggestions to optimize and maximize battery power:
• Purchase an extra battery pack.
• Use the AC adapter whenever possible so that the battery is reserved for onthe-
go computing.
• Keep the battery pack in the computer powered by the AC adapter. The
constant trickle charge maintains the battery level to eliminate the battery
self-discharge effect. The charge-in-use function also charges the battery
pack.
• Eject the PC card from the card slot when it is not in use, since the PC card
draws extra power. See “Ejecting a card” on page 56.
• Store the battery pack in a cool, dry place. The recommended storage
temperature for battery packs ranges from 10 to 30 degrees Celsius. The
higher the storage temperature, the faster the battery pack self-discharges.
• The batteries can be recharged about 400 times when used as directed.
Excessive recharging decreases battery life.
• Take care of your battery pack and AC adapter. See “Care and maintenance”
on page ix of the preface.
