Ewolff, awesome power supply pic

Credit where credit is due. That pic came from the review at Bjorn3d.com. The only thing that pisses me off is that they review these "SLI" power supplies and they don't use a high end SLI system to test it!!! Every review I have seen is a non-sli system. Now how is that supposed to be helpful?

Well I threw the system together last night to make sure the motherboard works. I am still waiting for the Video Card to show up, so I am using a PCI card right now.

When I initially turned on the system, I noticed the exhaust fan in the PSU was not spinning. Not good. So I cracked open the PSU and found that wires for the fan were backwards!!! I reversed the wires and it works fine now.

Another thing of interest is the processor. With the Abit board, the processor was running 56 degrees C at idle which is kinda warm. Well when I pulled the heatsink off, I found out why. Whoever built my computer used WAY too much thermal compound. The stuff was oozing off the sides of the processor. With the Asus board, the processor is idling around 37 degrees. MUCH BETTER!!

I still need to order two waterblocks for the gpu's and I am thinking about sticking a Black Ice Extreme between the GPUs and the processor.

Progress so far. I finally got the video card today. It's an XFX 6600gt Dual DVI. I'll be ordering a second within a few months. I still need to hook up the FrontX and I am waiting on a 92mm fan to show up for the hard drive bay.

Nice mod; shame the ide ribbon cable that you have there hanging, why don't you change it for a rounded one??

The rounded cable sticks out and causes problems with the door.

Question, those black feet that stick out on the bottom, are they removeable?

Ah, no internal headers?

The feet fold in or they can be removed, but I would not recommend removing them.

On the Abit board that came with the system all internal headers were being used for the card reader and the left two front ports. I left it the way it was because I have since added PCI USB card.

Here is a more recent shot of the case. I tidied up the IDE ribbon cable a bit and the FrontX is installed.

Well I'm kind of limited on space in the CPU compartment of my desk. I took the case dimensions from the Alienware and bought this desk specifically for the 7500. I don't think that Alienware factors in the case feet on their width measurement. It says 9.5" wide. Can you do me a favor and measure the width of the case with the feet folded out? Thanks.

And are there header cables running out of the back for the Asus nForce 4 SLI as well?

Also, did you get the ALX Heavy Duty Power cable?

I don't know what they do for the Asus board. Ask Darth, he has an ALX with that board. The Asus does have three USB headers so I don't see why they wouldn't all be internal.

I would also strongly reconsider placing an Alienware inside a desk. New systems run hot enough as it is without restricting airflow. Put it on the floor or on a desk / table.

I envy you...
I wonder if there is a way I could do ground effects for my laptop... that would be cool. Sitting in class with my laptop on and a blue glow coming from underneath it

Go with water cooling for use inside a desk.

BeanTech makes an acrylic laptop cooler. I bet you could put lighting in it.

Well I finally broke down and installed my Exos. I had been waiting to purchase a second card and two more waterblocks before setting it up, but I could not resist hooking it up. During the time that the Exos was between systems, I replaced the stock fans with Blue LED fans. The system is noticeably quieter, but the stinking chipset fan is now the loudest thing in the system. Ambient temperatures dropped a good 12 degrees on the processor. I have yet to do a stress test on it. Videocard is running at 41 degrees.
