Parts are starting to show up for my next project dubbed "Project Roswell." Unfortunately the major change that this project entails may upset a few of you, but nevertheless I am still an Alienware devotee...

I am going to be doing this on the down low, so I do not expect it to be completed until early summer. So you all get to see my worklog

First up is a Crystalfontz CFA-635 LCD. This is the only 20x4 LCD I have seen that only takes up one 5 1/4" bay. Most are either 16x2 or 16x4 in two bays.

Here's a posterior shot of the LCD. The thing coming off the back is called a SCAB.

Here's a closeup of the SCAB. There are four headers for Fan control. Ecah channel can handle up to 1.5a and 4a total for all channels. There is a header for thermal sensors. The SCAB supports 32 sensors daisy chained together. The floppy connector provides power to the fans.

Boot Screen.

A picture says a thousand words.

Hey ewolff how do you like that lcd. I just ordered one the other day, just waiting for it to get here. Anything that I should look out for, should know about to make it smoother on the install or setup?. Just got done reading this whole thread, and all I can say is WOW! Great job, well done!

Did you get the 635? One word of warning. The 635 only works with the Crystal Control 2 beta version and you can not make your own screens yet. There are plenty of users in their forums that can make screens and there are quite a few pre-made screens out there. I am starting to make my own, but it's a pain because you have to hand code it. It took me 40 minutes to get three temperature sensors from MBM to show up correctly on the LCD. And I still don't have them formatted the way I want.

Indeed I did order the 635, dam new stuff. I guess there is going to be a learning curve with this I take it. Oh well I currently have the time to mess with something new. Guess I need to go do a bunch of reading in their forums then (hope they are as helpful as this one). Thanks for the heads up, and please keep me updated if you make some sort of breakthrough on this.

I was concerned about the 635 at first too, but so far it appears to be capable of doing everything I want it to do. It's just a matter of getting the screens configured.

Damn. It seems like ive been researching a butload of info on computers for the last month and i still am put to shame by half of what you can do... Is there like a big guide on how to make a sweet computer with all the bells and whistles? >_>

Im getting an arora soon so this inspired me that i can make a standard computer amazing... my first goal is to somehow figure out how to overclock my system and get it running at peak performance... Then i can move on to buying a fan controll thingy and installing some custom cooling as not to fry my computer.... But dang there is just so much out there... I havent the slightest clue as to how water cooling works... all ive gatherd is ya fill a bunch of tubes with liquid and it looks realy sweet <_<

I say you should write a "pimp my computer guide" explaining step by step what you did... I would easily pay for it =P

Just spent 300.00 at Danger Den for my upcoming project. The sad thing is, I am only about 50% of the way towards having all of the WC stuff I will need for this project. Pictures to come...
