Does your outgoing mailserver require authentication?
What are your mail server settings? WHat error does it report when you hit send and recive? Are both connections through the same isp? if it's a 550 error your not using the correct smtp server on the one that doesn't work.

I'm not sure of your exact situation, but I use my laptop in two locations, at home on a Comcast @Home Cable Modem, and at school on the University network, with e-mail accounts on each. I can receive e-mail from both accounts when connected to either network, but I can only send from the account that I'm connected to (ie. when I'm at school I can't send through Comcast, and vice versa). This is true of most mail servers because they close the smtp server to the outside world. That sounds like what your case is, but I'm not sure of the specifics.

If the e-mail server is provided by your ADSL ISP and you cannot send while connect to the ADSL, then it's a problem and you should probably contact the ISP.

it say 550 relaying not allowed please use SMTP auth.

well, I have been in my auth for incredimail and I have entered the password, but it is still not working on the adsl connection. modem works fine, except modem is slow and cost me 2$/hour when adsl is 40$/month here in europe.

what i do not understand is I have followed exactly and I have enterd the right information that my adsl providrs gave me.

smtp.freesurf.ch
pop.freesurf.ch

user name and passcode from my freesurf account.

and once again, it works with the modem and not the adsl.
i have tried to use outlook express, thinking it s a problem of incredimail, i have same problem. after i have tried to use muchomail instead of freesurf.the problem is still here...
why this damn ADSL dont let me send smtp???I hate to use my yahoo account cuz it s my professional account and i would like to keep it clean.

compujas, why they close the smtp???

ISP is blocking outgoing port 25

port 25 - the standard for unsecure SMTP
port 465 - the standard for secure SMTP

Your ISP is blocking outgoing port 25 which is the port normally used by unsecure mail servers.

If your email service allows secure smtp, you can change your client to use that instead. ISP's have started to block outgoing port 25 to prevent virii from sending out mail to unsecure servers but not 465 (unless they are evil and trying to get you to use their email server only). However, it's only a matter of time until the virii are smart enough to send through an email client that's already authenticated to the secure outgoing mail server.

Your client should have a setting for SSL or "secure" outgoing mail server.

Ok in outlook express In the account properties on the server tab, incoming would be pop.freesurf.ch and out going would be smtp.freesurf.ch next put in your user and pass. Uncheck the remember password if you want, it should be by checked default. Then check mark the "My server requires authentication" under the outgoing mail server. Click the settings. It should default to using same as incoming. click apply. Try it out. With any luck you should be good to go. if not post back and we'll go from there. As to why they close the servers. One word, spam. If you have an open relay anyone can send email through your server so it looks like you are the one spamming not the actual entity that is spamming. If you have aim hit me up if you want.

i have tried what you said bsmith, nothing to do.

i tried to change the 25 in 465 like saleen say, have checked and uncheck the ssl box.it says connection failed!!!

nothing to do. do you think my server tries to block smtp. it means i will always have to put my mail when iam connected, ...so what s the point to have a laptop.

i use one of the biggest providers of the coutry.
I have tried for hours, even for days to make it work. i am desperate!

John,

I had the same issue ones. Try putting in the IP address of your swiss provider. So 194.158.229.8 for the SMTP and POP. Apparently they are both the same on this provider.

Then under outgoing server make sure it says same as incoming server. Also under connection make sure it says using LAN and finally under advanced press defaults button first and then check if it is using std ports again. There are not that many email servers that do secure login and SSL connections. So NO SPA (Secure Password Authent.)

Call your ISP.

Just for what it's worth, SMTP AUTH can go over port 25, and usually does in most cases. Try configuring your username and password for the service and have it transmit over port 25. Despite what others have suggested, your ISP is *not* filtering port 25, because you were able to connect to the service in order to have it tell you that relaying was denied. Also, since you got "connection refused" when trying to connect to port 465 for secure SMTP, you can rule out the idea of your mail provider using secure SMTP at all. Good luck.

PS you can read email because you are accessing pop or imap default ports and neither is port 25.

so i have to contact my adsl providers, to see what port they have?right?
try going to "Outlook express" , Tools, drop down to Accounts,
click the Mail tab, double click on your E-Mail account you want to use, click the Servers tab, then check the My Server Requires Authentication box then click Apply. Next click the Settings button and click the Use Same Settings as my Incomming Mail Server, click OK button and OK again.

finally try sending and recieving mail!

did what u say, still same error 550 relaying not allowed...
You need to contact your ISP for help. You have tried any and all possible combinations. If you continue to get 550 errors and are connecting through the DSL you are paying for, and that the servers belong to the same company. The ISP needs to fix their end.

yes it is scandalous, I am paying for a sevice that can not let me send e mails!!!

now i am using yahoo. and when i need to send e mail from my freesurf account, I use the modem, and the charge me the communication. but it is only 30 seconds, around 0.1 $...

Does your ISP provide web-based access to your email? That would probably be a good work-around.
