M6805 Bios SP2 Questions & concerns - Page 3

Thanks. I installed the omega drivers and my computer lives again. The people on this board know far more than anyone at Gateway/Emachines. I spent hours over the last month with their technical support with absolutely no results. Thanks again. I might even try to install SP2 on this thing, which was the reason I got into all this trouble in the first place.

Or you all could get around any potential problems with cross-flashing and just use the new OFFICIAL emachines 6805 BIOS!!! OMG the logic!

I have been using that BIOS for like 6 months with SP2.

I would try reflashing it with the official one. Sometimes the flashes do not work correctly. I have had this happen on desktops a few times.

Also the best way to do the install is this:

Format hard drive
install windows xp with restore disk
install service pack 2
go get all security updates
get all ahrdware updates
then install the via hyperion drivers
finally your omega drivers of your choice.

This will minimize the chance of disaster.

It appears he already did.

Does anyone know if the official 6805 bios will work on all the 68XX series, or is it specific to the 6805. I have a 6809 that I am is having all the same problems with sp2.

esupport shadow-k8 bios

Hey Gang,

I'm going on 1 year with my m6809. When i first got it I installed SP2 but my OpenGL Graphics would freeze in my CAD program so I rolled back to SP1 and have been hesitant to upgrade to sp2 due to this problem.

Last week i had to do an xp home to xp pro upgrade (to get on a client's server) and this got me thinking about updating the bios and going for the sp2 upgrade. I've been researching the forums on bios upgrades and also had the kind folks at esupport.com offer to sell me the latest shadow-k8 bios for $60.

Would this spendy upgrade be the same as that for the m6805 on the emachine website?

Also, has anyone else experienced and/or fixed a sp2 /opengl freeze by updating the bios? (either acpi or DEP issues?)

Will I see any performance gains with new bios & sp2?

ps - on friday the 13th my system had an overheat shut down (first time for this). I installed latest amd drivers and speedswitch xp and things seem fine for now - any thoughts?

pps - does motherboard monitor support the m68xx series? It doesn't seem to but i get a little confused as to who actually makes the motherboard on the arima boxes....

Thanks in advance for the info.
Ruck

Go to eMachines WebSite and look under downloads for the 6805. The BIOS there is for the whole series (they're all the same), and Free!
