Are you overclocking your video card? If so, that would be the first and best explaination.... clock it down and see if it still happens.

I see you've installed HL2 yesterday and the problem also started yesterday - too suspicious... Especially when you mentioned "steam rip version of Half Life 2"

Give a try to Crash Analysis Tool Mr.Mojo tell us about recently - http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=51416

CHAPS AFTER I INSTALLED THE rad_w2kxp_omega_2590_7z.exe (THE OMEGA DRIVERS BASED ON CATALYST 4.10 2.5.9.0) I NEVER GOT ANY FREEZING ON ANY GAME

THAT SHOWS THAT 4.12BETA IS NO GOOD FOR ME

Did you turn off "AI"? I heard people had problems with overheating and such with AI on.

I have spent alot of time on this....

1. Upgrade to BIOS A05
2. Get the latest video (August) and graphics driver (9/23) and firmware updates from DELL.

Also I tracked my XPS freezing in games by using the 3rd USB port from the left (if your facing your laptop step up and look over, it is the 3rd one from the left). Once I stopped using that port, and have the latest drivers, I not had a game freeze up.

I'm really interested if you are also having an issue with the third USB port too. It may be an issue localized with my machine, but I am yet to have any confirmation from people in the forum. It will occur by using any USB device (mouse, external HD, webcam, headset etc).

I hope this helps as I was also extremely fustrated over this.

I would recommend grabbing the latest Omega drivers from www.omegadrivers.net . I have also seen a "special driver" based on the 4.12 Cats posted on this forum somewhere. I use that driver and performs excellent. I heard the latest Dell's are really good.

I was freezing up with HL2 - i updated the bios to A05 and also updated to the omega drivers. Haven't had an issue since. I don't know which one it was, but nice to have things working good and figured I would pass the info along. (currently running with the 9700 128mb) Thanks!!
