I remember reading that PCTorque was going to offer paintjobs again? I might have read it wrong, but i wasnt really paying attention till i just realized i would like one for a 8890 or the 5680. So will PcTrorque be offering paintjobs that will not void the warrantly? If so how much and is there a site for the company that will be doing the painting so maybe we can get an idea of colors?

Soon... very soon...

The rumors are not rumors. Pigs can fly (in this case).

I'm even tempted to send mine in (one of these days) and get a re-paint! How cool would that be?

can you tell us anymore or are you sworn to secrecy?

Adam - if you can announce color-jobs before alienware launches their area51m, you might very well snare back a number of the lost souls whos bigest complaint about the sagers is the looks.

I for one love the kit on the new models, but i like the look of the area51m.

If the colorized versions are announced, that might verywell tip the balance - all other things being equal - if aw is stupidly overpriced, then i wont need to make a descision...

Don't worry, colors will be offered... MANY colors will be offered along with the full sager warranty. Next month.

We will be able to perfectly paint match anything with the best quality Sikkens paint and prep. We will probably even offer paint matching from samples sent in if the customer chooses.

Alright! Confirmation from the man himself!

I'm going to need to start looking between my couch cushions so I have the cash for this.
Awesome.

they only bad thing that i see about the coloring, is that if you get it colored you CANNOT have thos pimp-ass "under the wrist guard" pictures. if you know what im saying

that is the only draw back, a minor one, but still a draw back.

I was about ready to post that same point. I used to own an alienware area-51m with it's green paint job (can't remember the spacey name they used for it), and now I own a 5670 with the standard coloring job (i.e. no custom paint job). For my insert I made one that looks like wood paneling and has two images (one of the linux pengiun and one on the team17 worms symbol) that look like they had been painted onto real wood under there. The end result is, from about a foot and a half away (or even closer for most) it looks like real wood paneling, and that rocks.

im sure that they aren't going to MAKE you get a paint job though. im sure that you could just go with the famous "standard" coloring job

Alienware offers paint jobs on their equivalent of the 5670, the Area-51m.

Hypersonicoffers paint jobs on their equivalent of the 5670, the Aviator GX6.

Voodoo offers custom paint jobs on their versions of the 5670 (Voodoo M:550), 8870 (Voodoo M:600) and 4760 (Voodoo M:70). However, they use their own extrernal chassis, which is slightly different from Clevo's. They no longer offer the 5670/M:550, and don't have any pictures of the 4760/M:700, and have only one picture of the 8870/M:600, which they recolor as you pick colors - which doesn't give you a good idea what it will look like. Which makes their site useless for seeing what a paint job looks like, but they feature custom paint jobs with artwork of your choice "tattooed" (read: stenciled) onto the case (for about $350 or something - Voodoo is pricey).

Most of us knew this already I think.. also you sure voodoo uses a different chassis? I would find this hard to beleive and i dont see any difference other then the color.. also according to adam paint jobs will be available from pctorque next month... and most likely at a pretty competitive price.

Well, the chassis has to keep all the same things in roughly the same place to line up with the internals correctly, so it's impossible to tell with the crappy pictures on Voodoo's site.

I know they used a different chassis for the 5670/M:550, becuse their design eliminated the modular properties of the modular optical bays - they had a fixed floppy drive in the front bay that was *not* swappable for an optical drive or second battery like everyone else's version of the same machine.

If you compare detailed images of the M:550 with the 5670, you'll notice the touchpad and Audio DJ controls are different, and the speakers on the Sager (right below the screen, either end) are clearly mounted elsewhere on the Voodoo. But if you compared the specs and options of the two machines, it was clear they were identical.

I don't know about the M:600 and M:700, I haven't gotten good enough looks at them to judge.
