Dear All,

Can anyone tell me if I can upgrade my 1.6Dothan processor with the latest Intel PM 755 Dothan 2.0 Processor? If can, do i need to update the BIOS on my laptop?

Thanks

The simple answer is no, Toshiba's and most notebooks are not intended for the end user to upgrade the cpu. However, it doesn't mean it cant be done. P25's for example are not difficult to do with the desktop P4's. Not sure what model you have using the Dothan, but would probably require taking apart most of the notebook. If your exact model is offered in the 2.0 Dothan then it probably is possible but not without difficulty. The other concern is thermal, and if it can handle the higher processer heat, but if the model is available with a 2.0 then it should be ok, assuming you get the heat sink and thermal paste on right. A BIOS upgrade may also be required. Oh, obviously doing this would void any warrarnty you might have on it.
