Anyone tried the M6811 BIOS version - 0F08.P00 - 8/11/04 yet?

post #1 of 18
Thread Starter
Well just wondering if anyone has tried out the newest available BIOS for the M6811?
I'm aware of the Gateway 52.00.1 version and I'm actually using it right now, but I happened to notice that there is a SECOND Gateway 7405GX (NS.00.02 - 10/16/04) as well as a more recent eMachines M6811 (0F08.P00 - 08/11/04) at http://www.rmecc.com/~v2/em/index.html. I'm curious to see if anyone else here has already flashed and seen if any of these last two are improvement? I'd do it myself, but I'm currently having problems with my CD/DVDRW drive on this M6809 and I'm planning on taking it into Best Buy for repair when I return home to the US this Xmas Holiday. (So I have to flash it back to stock BIOS, so it appears that I haven't voided my warranty! As if the BIOS is the most I've done to this system )

Well let us all know! Thanks!

I did flash to the NS Gateway BIOS. It seemd the same as the one I am currently using (52 Gateway BIOS), except it had the same battery meter problem all of the NS eMachines BIOSes had. I never bothered with the 08 BIOS. I didn't too much care to flash to an older one.

By the way, I love your avatar Took my son to see that movie a couple of weeks ago (2.5 years old). It was his first theater experience and he LOVED it.

I just flashed to that 52 Gateway bios on my 6805. I think it's hilarious that my system now prominently shows 'Gateway' when I boot up....heh heh.

I'm hoping this BIOS tweaks the Cardbus controller.......I'm bummed that my new Audigy notebook isn't working well.

I am using the 8/11/04 bios... and it actually takes a bit longer to boot up now. Get a flashing underscore cursor for about 5 seconds, before it loads the winxp bootscreen. Other than that, I've not noticed anything.. but then again, I havent gone into the bios either.

I flashed to the 0F08.P00 BIOS as soon as I recieved the notebook and have not have any trouble at all from it. Everything seems to work with nothing acting funny, also had no trouble installing SP2.

I am running the 5/13/04 0F07.P00 on my 6811 and also have sp2 installed, and I am wondering what this new bios corrects and if there are any problems with it. Also does it void the warrenty flashing it?

I received my m6811 back fromeMachines with a new MoBo sporting the newer (0F08.P00 - 08/11/04) BIOS. It correctly registers the power level and everything else works also. I have been running SP2 since it was released with no problem, with the 0F07.P00 BIOS.

Well, I could not wait any longer, I went ahead and flashed it last night and was greeted with a black screen of death, I am still trying to recover it now.

...............................Just Kidding, I flashed it last night and windows did not restart, I had to power down with the button, but it did flash correctly. I did not notice any difference in anything.

That seems to be kinda nature of the beast when using WinPhlash. It always hangs on the shutdown screen.

6811 --> 0F08.P00 - 8/11/04

When I got my 6811, the first thing I did was upgrade it to SP2. Then all of my extra buttons (volume and quick launch) stopped working and my battery charge would not display properly. I followed your link and upgraded my BIOS and now everything is running just fine. Thanks Shark! I will be using your guide to upgrade my internal RAM soon, too.
