WinXP Changed?!

When I booted up my notebook today instead of the usual Window startup page where I get to choose which user profile I wanted to use I was asked to put in my profile name and password. I never set a password so I can just hit enter and get in, but I hacen't changed anything so I shouldn't be getting this on startup. Also when I shut down, instead of the normal little window with the three buttons to Restart, Turn Off, or Log off, its now the same type of window that I get at startup, where I have to scroll down to get to the option I want. And when I go to log off I can only log off, not just switch users. Its like the interface has changed.

I did call customer support and was told to do a repair using the WinXP cd, but I don't have it with me right now. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Thanks.

try opening control panel/user accounts. select 'change the way users long on or off' and make sure the 'use the welcome screen' is checked.

Thanks for the help. But when I try it says Client Services for NetWare has disabled this option. Looks like I'll have to do a Windows repair. Dammit.

Did you join a domain by chance? This will definitely force the username/password logon screen.

Or did you put your machine on a network with a domain controller? I think domain controllers can enforce domain policies (which might include startup settings) - though I think you need to join the domain. I can't be sure.

If you are not attaching to a netware network. uninstall the netware client. Then do what the other poster said about changing how users log on or off.

I disabled the netware client by going to services in msconfig, but it didn't change anything. I think I did join a domain when I used the wireless network at an airport, but now I can't get my wireless to connect to anything even if there is an excellent signal. How do I uninstall netware client when I its not in the uninstall list in then control panel? Just go searching around for it? I want to make sure it doesn't screw me over if I do delete it.

Thanks for your guys input.

Go to Control Panel\Network Connections. View the properties of any of those connections, such as "Local Area Connection". In the General tab, you should see a list of services/adapters/protocols. Uninstall NetWare from there.

Thanks for the clarification Delta. I sometimes forget that not every one can read my mind. Or hear the voices that I do.
