Arghhh tough decisions...

I need a laptop NOW for finals... I have waited a month and a half for this mythical sagerbeast.

The M60 is: lighter, battery lasts longer, excellent video card, 3k, 400mhz FSB, regular RAM, available now

The 8890 is: not here yet, heavier, shorter battery, 3GHZ as opposed to ~2.4 with the Pentium M on the M60, 800mhz FSB, no word on price, DDR2

I guess it comes down to which will have the better performance... I mean, it will be the Sager, but by how much? 1.6GHZ Pentium M with the Go700 or the 8890 with the Desktop 3GHZ and m10p (maybe)?
Performance wise the new 8890 will be way more powerful than the M60. Really, it will.

Do you need good portability + good performance (low weight + long battery + performance)? Get the M60.
Do you need a fully desktop replacement (top of the line performance by far + low portability)? Wait couple of weeks for the 8890.

Really, the decision is as simple as it gets.

Cheers.

Check out the x1000 as well - it still has a 10% coupon

The best thing about the M60 is that the video card's drivers are configured better for 3D apps.

I'm looking at getting the 5680 personally, cause it has all the same specs minus some features I don't use in the 8890.

Either way, people are easily shelling out over 3000 bucks for the M60, and that's just cause Dell says so -- most of it's just for the vid card I assure you -- but it has little to no features over the Sager line.

So yeah, hurry it up Sager.

I think some people have problems giving credit where credit is due. The M60 is currently the most powerful laptop on the market. And when the new laptops are released (here in the upcoming 1-2 months) it will still be the most powerful centrino solution for those that need lighter weight and battery life. Not only that, but it beat everyone else to market by 2-3 months (it's been available since June)...which is saying alot in the tech industry.

So yeah it's easy to say the laptop coming out in xxxx months is so much better then what's on the market right now...won't that always be the case

I shelled out the cash largely due to the beautiful screen, video card, and battery life. Out of all the laptops out there right now, if you want amazing 3d performance and still enjoy the main point of having a laptop (i.e. portability) then this is your only bet.

I'm sure faster stuff will be out later, but this is what I wanted. I do have 30 days to return it if Sager can put out a laptop in that time which will satisfy all my requirements. =)

I do give credit to Dell for the M60 (and did for the M50 too) -- I just think they cost a pretty penny when they could be cheaper like their other laptops cause the only real difference is the vid card, it's a premium market and they know that.

I want one too (lol) -- I'm mainly reasoning out why not to spend upwards of 1000 bucks to get what equals a Sager (even if that Sager won't be out for 2 more weeks). But with the small business deals you mentioned a couple pages back, I'm very interested.

How do they verify the small business thing, is it possible to work around? If you truly got that thing for less than 2700 after rebates, please give more info

Well my concern was the screen i really wanted the 16.1 screen from the 8890, but now that its only coming with a SXGA, I feel alot better about getting a bigger screen than the 5680.

The M60 has a bigger screen, bettery battery life, and i honestly think the card will be more than appliable. Once im over 50 FPS i cant see the difference, so i think it would be alright.

ANd for small buisness, call a 800 number but i got this number of a Rep who said he would give me the best deal regardless of school/buisness. WHoo Hooo!!!

I mean a laptops gotta be portable, specially if you have a long train/plane/car ride home from school, i mean i defintly wanna be able to be productive during downtime

That's awesome indeed. Did you just call the 800 number on the site? Do you have stacking discounts? Please tell us how it goes!

Well im not going to be ordering to next week because of my crazy traveling schedule. I have a 10 day window when ill be home for it to arrive, im waiting to order it so i know ill be home! But if anyone wants the rep i was talking to, i have his extension and he seemed like he knew what he was talking aobut. And he returned my calls the next day. I believe he part of the sales force for the small buisness part, but since i can buy it either buisness or school he said it doesnt matter, but if you want an idea of what its going to cost configure it at the buisness site because it cheaper.

Yeah, his extension would be great. You say you can order from the business part, is that legit? I'm in graduate school and work for the state of Florida so may be able to pull a deal somewhere, but don't own a small business

They really don't care if you are a business or not, they just want your money They just ask for the name of your business, everyone I know (including myself), just uses their last name. They don't ask any additional questions. As far as the deals I got the exact same system I outlined a few pages back, but I actually got it for $150 less due to specials they were running that week ($200 instant and $200 rebate and 10% SB stackable coupon).

This UXGA 1920x1200 screen is absolutely amazing. After looking at it for a week you'll look at SXGA screens and wonder how people can even look at them...they will look very jagged. Other pluses are the battery life, weight, slim design, video card, 7200 RPM drives, gigabit ethernet, integrated 802.11 a/b/g, integrated bluetooth, etc. Another thing that attracted me was dell's policy on upgrades. You can upgrade anything you want in the laptop (video card, hard drive, RAM, etc.) and it will NOT void your warranty. Their tech support is pretty responsive too. I just had the Dell onsite technician leave my house after installing a new video card. Turns out the card wasn't the problem, only some settings I accidentally tweaked wrong, but it still says alot that I called last night at 4:30 and had someone here by 10:00 this morning changing out my video card - all at no cost to me. From watching the tech upgrade the video card it seems like a snap. I will probably do it myself here in 2 years.

Neison, are you alive?

If the answer is yes, then you are a small businessman.

Oh, wait, there is one other requirement: do you pay taxes? Like to the IRS and you have a SSN? If so, you qualify. They may say you need a business license, if so, just get one, they are usually very cheap and easy to get. Or they may want an Employers ID number, no need. You can use your SSN.

So, go for it man.

Yeah should i post his extension? let me get the number i got. Its not the number on the site, i cant remember where i got it. But the number on the site im sure will get you to his extension, and honestly thats why i called, because i figured it didnt matter which group you fit under (buisness/school/home).

Jyoung, the video card can be replaced? What did it look like? Was it like a mini-pci card.

His Name is Roger Ludlow (sp?) extension 41821, now i dont know which 800 number i called but i got a feeling they will all share the same extension setup. So let me know if that works. If you leave him a voicemail, he will call you back, just leave your name and number

NVIDIA® Quadro FX Go700™ 4XAGP graphics w/128MB DDR Video Mem its really 4x agp? Isnt that a little slow compared to the stuff that coming out? Or is that wrong?
Stack about 4 credit cards on top of each other and you have the video card. Add to it a small fan about the size of 4 nickels stacked, and then a metal housing used to secure it into the notebook. It takes popping 3 spots and roughly 6 screws to get to (located underneath the middle of the keyboard. Not sure if it's miniPCI or not, I honestly don't know how to tell. Definitely an upgradeable unit though (although it's up to Dell to keep the connections consistent in order to do that).
