Unhappy XPS Customer...
Interesting that I would run across this thread-- I received mine last week and it would not let me load anything that required more than one cd to install? After spending nearly three hours between somewhere in New Delhi, India and Tennessee, I was finally routed to the "special" XPS technical support staff. Well, he had me uninstall the Sonic drivers and DVD drivers and reinstall them. After that, I still could not load my software (e.g. Microsoft Office Professional, Doom 3, Call of Duty and United Offensive). The next step was to remove the cd/dvd drive, but because there was a "
set screw" it would not eject. Somewhere around 1:30 AM, he told me to get a small screw driver to remove the screws-- that is the point I said no.
I simply asked for a refund, but had to contact their Customer Care department the next day. After an agonizing wait, I finally got through. They offered to send me a new replacement, which I agreed to (after all, the XPS was supposed to be the flagship!). They said it would ship by Wednesday (29 Dec). Long story short-- the unit did not ship and it is delayed another two weeks before it even finishes production! I ordered the original XPS on 5 December. I ended up canceling the entire order and told them to please pick up the defective machine. I was so aggravated, I sent an e-mail complaint to Mr. Dell himself (which I am sure he will never read, let alone reply).
Bottom line, I have owned five Dell computers (3 laptops and 2 desk tops). I thought a $2,900 laptop would be iron-clad reliable. Suprise-- I am looking now for a XPS replacement (maybe an Alienware--). Have cash-- someone make a recommendation.
