is 8600 charger and 700m charger the same?

hey guys,

my puppy chewed a hole in my 700m's charger, now it won't work. Tryin' ta buy one off of eBay. do you know if the 8600's charger is the same as the 700m's charger? the INPUT: 100-240V @ 1.5A looks the same, but the OUTPUT for the 8600 is: 19.5V @ 4.62A while the OUTPUT for the 700m is: 19.5V @ 3.34A

basically, can i buy the 8600's charger and have it work on my 700m. I've already tried my brother's 8600 charger on my 700m, and it charged, just don't know if the difference in Amp will hurt my 700m.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

you are fine with it since the voltage is the same and the power supply you are using has a higher amperage rating than the original one. The computer determines how much current to draw (the amount of amperage). Since the 700m cord is rated for 3.34A and the cord you are using is 4.62A, the max current your 700m could draw would be 3.34A of the 4.62A. If the reverse was the case (i.e. you tried to use your 700m cord in your 8600) you could burn out the power supply if the computer was drawing the max current since it is greater than the cord's 3.34A capacity. so if that was confusing, the simple answer is yes you are fine with the 8600 cord.

did everyone's 8600 come with a 4.62A output?

i think 8600s were suppose to be 4.62A
but i looked at my friends 8600 and it said 3.34A, same as my 700m
i dunno.

hopefully it won't burn out the power supply like you said

ummm...mine is 3.34 as well. Could this be an issue?

Should I have received the higher output one?

Is there a way of checking on this?

I believe that you had the option when ordering of whether to upgrade to a 90W A/C adapter. The 3.34 Amp adapters are 65W, which is the base configuration for an 8600. When I purchased my machine, I opted for a 90W, which is 4.62 Amps. I don't believe that the 3.34 Amp unit (65W) should be a problem, if it was, why would it be sold with the machines?

ahh...yes, that would make perfect sense, now wouldn't it.... (thanks)

The 90w has the benefit of charging the 8600 faster (at least in my experience), but it is a bit bigger than the 65w.
