Dell Inspiron 1150 won't boot

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 Notebook. After I turned it off to check something in it, the laptop will not boot up again. The number lock key light is on, and the power light and battery light alternate flashing. What does this mean and how can this be fixed if known? Ideas wanted as well. Thank you.

well maybe when u turned it off to check something......u sure u know what u were doing? if it was working fine b4 u checked something and now it's not my guess is that it has to do with something you messed with.....

This is for a friend's laptop, one of her keys stopped working on her laptop, then the whole computer stopped working.
