Don't know if it's available in US, but here in Austria you can get it for about ~1600$

Specs:
14" WXGA (1280x768)
Dothan 1,6
Radeon 9700 64MB
60GB
DVD+-R/RW/Ram
Wlan b/g
Weight: about ~2.1 kg
2 Years warranty with pick up & return

I know it's a Photo Gallery, but some comments:

You can't hear it, even if the HD is working
4 USB Ports are really well placed
Very nice keyboard
Very bright display, with good horizontal viewing angels, vertical is normal
Really nice design, and it's really light and thin.
Nice PCMCIA remote control (distance:~5m)
Battery: ~3 - 3.5h
Some nice software (full version of trendmicro internet security, some video and audio programs which work with the remote control and so on...)

Who names a laptop the Joybook?

Just curious
well fujitsu has a "life"book....man benq needs to bring this to the states -_-, we get stuck with all the dell/hp/compaq junk

The USA has got a HUGE variety of notebooks to choose from in comparison to Europe, not to mention the much much cheaper prices, so really there is nothing to complain about.
I too was thinking about the BenQ, but the have got very average reviews on many sites, so was a little put off by them. The price tag is €1600 - for that I can get an IBM T4x .

But I do have to agree with the posters above on one point - its definitely a very nice looking machine you got there, and a cool remote control feature. Good specs too, I hope the machine serves you well!

IBM T4x start here at around 2000€ (with acceptable specs)

And here in Austria you have to pay 20% tax, so in Germany you can get it for around €1450..which is not that much.

At the moment I'm still very satisfied with the joybook

ibm's have nice build and keyboard, but im looking for 14" widescreen (no hp or compaq or gateway garbage), with a decent vid card and about 5.x lbs, NOTHING in the us currently satisfies those requirements, so i still believe us gets the shaft, in cars too...but tahts another topic

the closest thing is the asusw3n and that might not even come here...as im hearing
post #9 of 52
Can't you just order one from outside the US if you want one?
well true but theres shipping and import tax...don't even want to think about how much that would be...that said i've found the joybook on ebay in the uk and taiwan

*drool* I am so going to buy one of these! Here down under in Australia they seem to have just dropped in price! Pitty they still only come with a 40 Gig hard drive though
post #12 of 52
heh so how much are they now then
$2349 at ... wait. am I allowed to mention stores here? Well I have found them at that price at 2 computer stores. I have found them at $2500 at a large electronics store as well!

*edit* seems to be okay to post companies.

AU$2349 (US$1,785)
at www.umart.com.au
and www.ftc.com.au (not on their website last time I checked, but was advertised in the weekend shopper).

Retravision have it for AU$2500.

Now for all of you who will now say what! Thats more than the initial poster said the price was remember, Australia is a lot more expensive for notebooks than the USA or in this case Austria (note the missing 'AL'). When I first saw the price of US$1500 at the top I misread the country and frantically searched for it. You can get a similar spec laptop for around that price but only if you go for a cheap build quality.

For instance, the Acer Travelmate 3200 Series that everyone is saying is a competitor to the BenQ is RRP AU$3299 here is US$2500. They are well under US$2000 in America.

well I purchased it today. As soon as I saw it in the store I was in love. The metal shell is very nice (although it does look a little plastic like) and the keyboard is also nice and reminds me of the Sony A series keyboard. The key look and feel is the same.

Just reinstalling XP Pro on it now. It came with it, but when I changed my password I managed to change it to something else and cannot get in anymore!

*edit* it is 2.22Kg with battery.
specs are
1.6 Centrino
512 Mb RAM
40 Gb HDD
DVD +- RW and RAM burner
XP Pro

so same but with a smaller HDD.

hm, for the 3201XMi

Pentium-M 715 1.50GHz • 512MB • 80GB • DVD+/-RW • USB 2.0/Modem/Gb LAN/WLAN 802.11g • ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 w/64MB • 14.1" TFT (1024x768) • Windows XP Professional

you have to pay 1200€ here, 2500 for Australia would be really much

$2500 for a 3201XMi would be a bargain!

Here the RRP is $3299. It was also on my shortlist of notebooks - but I would have had to source it from overseas.

Hi moj.

I'm also from australia. Can you please tell me what specs did the Retravision Benq 7000 had because its quite cheap for $2500. In melbourne, i've only seen one online shop sell it for $2700 which has P 1.6Ghz/512mb/40gb .

btw, look at this taiwan review
http://mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?...61&last=394147

This version's case looks more shiny and reflective than the pix of the thread starter.
same specs!
Here is a link for you:
http://www.retravision.com.au/images...laptops_q1.gif
notice it is /AUS/VIC/

It says "fast intel centrino processor" but since there are only 2 models of it, and both have 1.6 Processors it should be 1.6 unless it is old old stock (it used to come with a 1.5Ghz). Considering I could not even find one at a retravision in Brisbane suggests to me they are new stock and thus 1.6Ghz.

It says on some of the sites that it has tri-band wireless, but mine only has BG wireless which is what the benq site states now. The umart site says it is a Intel 2100 wireless, but they are B only (there is a 2100A which is A only also). Mine is a 2200BG. Umart also seem to think this thing ways 2.99Kg - not a chance! mine is 2.222Kg and that is with the plastic protecting sticker on, should drop to <2.2 with it off.

And the case looks more shiny as he has not removed the protective plastic that covers it! If you look at the pic of the BenQ logo and the one underneath it you can see the actual case colour and the edges of the sticker. Just like in the picture further down of the power lights with the lid open you can see the sticker that covers the inside plastic.

Also, I want his notebook slip case! Well the one I really want is the Booq vyper but I think the laptop is around 5mm too thick and too deep to fit it http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=96

Hope it helps!
