On a more serious note...perhaps this is an attempt to stray away from the oil-dependency on OPEC? The whole Iraq thing...if we keep giving them money for oil they'll just keep using the money to build weapons. Why the heck do we do it again?

In any case, the electric cars need to look more appealing if they want people to buy them. That, and they need to be cheaper. Much cheaper.

Well, first, Iraq is a separate issue... I won't get into that, lol. The cars can't be cheaper though because they cost a heck of a lot to build. They will get cheaper though as the technology is less new. The Prius and the Honda Civic hybrid look great... and the electric Rav4 looks like a normal one, lol, which is nice IMHO.

Hybrids don't solve the problem, they just lessen it. Just like cough drops and pain killers.

Some crazy parent bought an electric car and it goes 60 mph. It looks like a golf cart but with windows. Any idea which one THAT is?

Agreed, it's like painting over rust, but it's a step... Problem is, no matter what, the technology is going to hurt the environment. It's just as simple as that... an electric car still polutes, lol, you have to have a coal or gas generator at a power plant somewhere pumping crap out into the air in order to charge the batteries, lol. Oh well... Got to have cars. I just hope we can find a way to fix the environment as fast as we screw it :-)

Well the ozone layer would repair itself in 50 years if we left the environment alone, but who's going to do that? 50 years...you could fall behind 60 trends by then.

Really, in 50 years, we've improved television, created the PC, spread the automobile all over the place, and computers are cheaper than ever! If you stop and give pause to the environment, you lose. It's all a money thing.

Yeah, lightning repairs the ozone... Then consider that the oxygen level has dropped steadily for the past millenium and many anaerobic microbes (dangerous ones) are emerging as oxygen levels drop to their tollerant levels.

I suppose this is where your pre-med comes in.

Yeah, so we'll all die, and thanks to medicine overpopulating the world. How ironic.

Okay, so not just medicine.

There are lots of grim things in the world... that's just truth. It's not a big deal, just look on the bright side. :-) Like Monty Python said... Always look on the bright side of life...
