It's crunch time. My parents really need me to buy my laptop now. How certain is it that the 5670 will be upgradable to the 5680? Will the 4060 be upgradable at all? Is it possible to upgrade the processor? My thinking is that I could buy low now and upgrade later, how realistic is that? I really really want to buy a Sager, but my parents want to get an HP from Best Buy. (Mostly because of their no interest for 2 years pricing plan.) What kind of pricing plan does PCTorque offer?

my opinion

Hello. If you can't wait for the 5680 to come out, go with the 5670 from PC Torque... it was mentioned that Sager usually offers an upgrade path... don't buy an HP.. go with Sager, they even have a discounted price if you pay in cash(PC Torque)... and with PC Torque you get your pc in a very short period of time... plus these great forums for support...

Sager is wanting to offer the upgrade option, but we won't know until the new models are released and they can test for an upgrade solution. Some of the venting is changed and if they can easily swap the parts needed to turn a 5670 into a 5680 they will probably offer it. I haven't had any word on the 4060 getting the 800FSB and 9600PRO.

Thanks for the quick response. I fully intend to get a Sager, but all my parents see is the 2 year no-interest financing of the HP.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor in the 5670? If so, can you upgrade a non-hyperthreaded processor to a hyperthreaded one?

Yes, The 5670 has the option in the bios and you can stick a 3.06GHZ CPU in it, reload Windows and enable HT in it fine.

Alright, I think I'll be able to buy a Sager now. One more question: will it be possible to upgrade to an 800 Mhz FSB chip?

If you can confirm that the 5680 is going to be released in the next week that will definitely seal the deal, but I understand that you probably can't. I suppose If it's released within 30 days of me ordering my 5670 I could return it and get the 80, but that seems like a big hassle to me...oh well, I will see.

Are we close Adam? I wasn't sure if you had info a week before pre-order or whatever. It seems like this week it will be pre-orderable I hope. Were in the dealine I think.

Can you give us a sign? Any sign that were right on top of knowing all of whats going on? Or are you in the same boat as us.

Someone mentioned in another thread that Pre-order becomes available about a week before you can actually order and it's shipped to you. Is this typical? It also seems they keep a tight lid on new lines until there right on top of you and you open the boxes, read the instructions, and then add to the site.

Remember, the other end of the bus has to support 800 MHz as well, and that will probably require a new motherboard.

Hmmm, I'm detecting a disturbance in the force. Something tells me that this is going to be THE week when they start taking orders on those new Sagers.

I'll believe it when the check is in the mail.
