ATI X700 Mobile Bench Mark!

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1752368,00.asp

Final Thoughts

With the MRX700, ATI has moved us a step closer to realizing the dream of a 6-pound laptop that delivers good gaming performance. What we saw here was a 7-pound laptop (8 with power supply) that delivers pretty good performance on current-generation games. Before we can make a final pronouncement, we will do a full retest on the shipping Eurocom system we received just before filing this piece, though we only expect fairly modest performance gains from the corrected clock rates.

Assessing the MRX700's performance is a matter of how you frame it. Against the big honking gamer laptops that cost over $3,000, a Centrino-based system equipped with the MRX700 is going to pale in comparison. But if you look at the GPUs that have shipped in midrange laptops, the MRX700 does represent a significant gain, bringing an eight-pipe GPU to what had been a four-pipe GPU world. The upshot is that a midrange 7-pound laptop that can play current generation games (albeit using fairly modest settings) can now be had for around $2,000.

3D games and 3D GPUs represent moving targets and evolving platforms. The demands of one versus the performance of the other, coupled with the design constraints found in building a midrange laptop necessitate trade-offs. So while we're not quite to the Promised Land, the Mobility Radeon X700, and the upcoming competitive answer from nVidia (likely to be called the GeForce Go 6600) move us several more clicks in the right direction.
