Failure to run Vampire TM: Bloodlines

After the first 4 intro movies run I get a popup with the following error:
failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer

Has anyone seen this issue with this game or any other game using the Source engine (Half Life 2, etc.)?

i have no problem playing this game with my 8790 (3.0 ghz, 1 gig ram). You might want to update your graphics driver or directx (since the error is gfx related). But you should have no problems and the game should run smooth with 4x AA and AF.

i run this game fine to, but blade, how do u change AA and AF?

either u change it in display settings to affect all games (under advanced settings => D3d, or you can get the omegadriver which allows you to create custom settings for the game, so the accelerations are only in place when you play the game.

Solution has been found

I reinstalled the BIOS and ATI driver then everything started to work (AND IT LOOKS EXCELLENT).

yeah, it won't run on 8x agp, what I had to do was re-install the drivers off sager's site and change the speed to 4x using an option that I don't have with the omega's installed called "Smart GART" in the advanced section of display.

that was the only way that it finally solved the problem, I had previously tried to lock the refresh rates at 60hz using multires, and drop the resolution to 800 x 600, nothing would work for me except that.

Alright..
I thought reviving an old thread is better than starting a new one, so...
I'm running Vampire on a pretty low-end desktop but that actually is not the problem. The engine keeps crashing to desktop every 30 or so minutes, sometimes even less than that. I pretty have installed everything that I could find and some did help, namely patch 1.2, unofficial 1.2 additional and unofficial 1.3.
Performance is really not the issue, although crashing sometimes occurs right after the engine hits the pagefile. So short stutter, reload and blub.. Desktop.
So game engine is unstable at times and if there are tweaks or tips on how to stabilize it, I'd appreciate it.
