Upgrading Dell 600m graphics card

Thread Starter
I purchased the Dell Inspiron 600m early this year, and took the option to upgrade the Graphics card to the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. I can say that up to now, I have been extremely happy with the notebook itself and the graphics card, although with new release games such as Doom 3 and Half Life 2, I find it lagging a bit. I have visited computer shops and asked whether it is possible to upgrade the graphics card, and have pretty much received no help. Does anyone know whether it is possible to upgrade? Anyway help would be greatly appreciated.

No. Although the 600m uses a proper graphics card instead of an integrated on-chip solution.... unfortunately it is attached to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded. Sorry but you have no viable upgrade path in terms of video with that model.

Bummer. I guess the only way is to upgrade the motherboard as a whole right?

it might be cheaper for you to get a new laptop rather than upgrade the motherboard.

Yeah... plus you could only upgrade to a motherboard compatible with the 600m form factor.... which limits you to a 600m or D600 mobo, so no difference there. Sorry.

on a slight tangent, is it possible to upgrade from the 32mb to 64mb?

swap out the mobo and you will be good to go.

Yeah, you'd have to swap a 600m mobo with the 32MB graphics to a motherboard with 64MB graphics. The cost of this is way too prohibitive considering the performance gain that would follow IMHO.
