Do your fans run all the time?

Just trying to figure out how common this is: my fans come on briefly during startup (expected), then come on, and remain on after a minute or two (they don't shut off at all) til I shut down.
I have my 5660 on a hard surface with a raised edge which raises the notebook about 3/4" for unimpeded air for the cooling fans. If I were to leave my hand in proximity to the left side vent, my hand would get burned...my wireless card in the PCMCA slot is very hot to the touch. The air coming out of the vent on the left is very similar in heat to a hair dryer, tho' of course at a lower air flow rate.
I can't tell if the little fan there (beneath the PCMCA slot) is running or not---is it pretty obvious or just a subtle flow there? It won't raise a little wisp of cotton...should it?
I should mention that the fans always run whether I'm writing an email, browsing a web page or doing big graphix (except then they run harder/faster/louder). I will call Sager about this but want some comparison data. I'd like to hear how your fans behave. Thanks!

PS: oh yeah, my keyboard is very warm all the time!

I almost didn't understand your problem until you said it was REALLY hot. That part is abnormal, but everything else seems normal; including the "hot keyboard" problem. The keyboard is supposed to get hot, as air is vented through there as well.

I would hardly think it common for it to get so hot that your hand would almost burn.

I was expecting my 8886 to get hot but it doesn't. The fans turn on like
every 10 to 20 minutes or so putting out some hot air but thats it. The keboard doesn't get warm at all. The vent on the side never gets too hot
to touch either. I am very happy.

Same here with the 8886... I don't know about the 5660 though... Question... If you remove the wireless card, does the problem persist? Do you have any other peripherals hooked up to it? Let us know what Sager says and how they handle it! Good luck!

My fans don't run all the time at all.
Only really when there's a cd/dvd being run/burnt.
And I wouldn't say my keyboard gets hot. Tepid maybe.
The pcmcia card can get hot though. But it doesn't seem tohave effected its performance.
The loudest noise is definitely the a/c adapter which I'm trying to figue out how to quieten without blocking air flow.

I put the ac adaptor inside my cooler mod by its own air vent in the back, and honestly, I can hear it at all... EVER. Glad to (not) hear it. :-)

Sorry? What did you build for it? I missed that thread.

Yeah, so for trueblue I think I'd either open it up and give it a look see or send it back. You should probably do the latter. Best to let the professionals screw something up and have them pay you back than to screw it up yourself and get some "user-fault" warranty void.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone,
I just returned to see all these replies. DenKC and Kitekat, are you on 5660's or 8886's? Thanks a lot for the info! I'd say that it sounds like the 8886 runs cooler (more space inside?) than the 5660...
Thanks!

Actually I don't have either, I've just been really excited about getting a Sager next year (since LAST year) and tried to read everything I could about them. That's why I tend to ask more questions than answer on this forum.

And how did you know my little name thing was normally "DenKC" and not denkc?

Questions, answers, all are equally helpful :-)

And I don't know about the 8886 running cooler, lol, it's packed with stuff... keep in mind it has more spindles, a full keyboard, and an internal mp3 player to name a few, lol. That is not to say that it runs hot, it's actually had NO problems in terms of heat (or anything else, lol).
