Thats easy. Just call Dell Tech and complain about the wuxga screen and ask for a replacement screen. Theyll jump to that and send you a replacement and it takes 5-7 bussness days according to them. I dont know what you preffer if u want just the screen or the whole system replaced. It depends if u want to risk opening it up and breaking something voiding the warrany but id preffer asking fo a replacement system with the wxga screen. You will only send back your present i9200 after you recieve the replacement system. Good Luck

This is based on my experience with DEll tech 2 days ago. They offered me a replacement system with the wxga screen but i declined because to me, the purpose of a 17" is for more space and higher resolution

I just shipped mine back today, deciding what to do now?

I loved this system, I want to use it for some gaming though not alot. other than that I do a some video and picure editing, and then just the general stuff too. I got the wuxga for the increased res. How would the wxga compare on this system. I realize I'm losing alot of pixels, but will it be noticible? I was at compusa earlier looking at the toshiba 17 inch, which was the same resolution as the wxga 9200, and it looked wonderful to me, I could not notice the pixels or anything? Would I be disappointed with the wxga. Like I said the toshiba one looked fine at that resolution, but I guess anthing would look good compared to the screwed up screen on my 9200 wuxga So I'm thinking of getting another 9200 with the wxga. Has there been ANYONE complain about the wxga 9200?

I mentioned playing games, but most of the time (corred me if I'm wrong) aren't most games usu. played at lower resolutions anyway? So if that is the case the only way I would see a difference is in other video or high quality picutes.?

My WUXGA is being shipped out today. I was just wondering about something. Since I ordered a USB memory key, and they are shipped in two separate packages, is it ok to refuse it and have it returned that way? Thanks

I don't think there is any way to find out if you like the WUXGA screen other than to try it yourself for at least a day. When you get it, just use it as you would a normal computer - don't focus on the background - then after a day ask yourself if you like it.

I think the shipping cost is a small price to pay for the chance to test this screen out for yourself. If I order the other screen or a different computer, I would be second guessing myself if may be the 9200 WUXGA would have been the right choice for me.

In my case, my first reaction was that the screen was OK, but I wish it were better, but the rest of the computer was great. Now I seem to like it more and more. My serious hobby is photography, and I have always been very picky about screens. I am one of the few to get an Apple Cinema Display to use with PC because it was the best in my eyes. I am not a gamer (yet).

Read everything, but decide for yourself.

Well I orderd my 9200 today with WUXGA, should arrive in about 2 weeks. I've been reading the reply's about the WUXGA screen but it didn't scare me that much too not order it. I will have to see it for myself...

A friend of mine saw a brand new 8600 with WSXGA screen last week and he noticed that had a different coating then his own 1 year old 8600 WUXGA. After metioning the 'problems' some of you have with the 9200 screen, he said the new 8600 WSXGA had the same sparkly/metalic finish, it wasn't bad according too him, just different.

I've seen the effect on newer 8600's and 9100's. It's not too bad on the WSXGA+, but it was a little worse on a new WUXGA. I wonder if Dell recently changed LCD coatings. If so, we should start hearing this complaint more often. I've only heard one other person complain about their 8600 display.

I agree with unclejung There are many people that does not like the 9200 screen but there are also some that like the screen. The only thing i don't agree is about the shipping charges. It is a small price to pay comparing to the laptop itself but to some, that money could have been use to uprage a component to another system. It is worth to try and see it yourself and then decide if you can handle the screen for about a year or longer(depending on how long you need it) but i personally did not like it but unclejung does so it is really hard to tell you if this system is for you.

Also, I find myself wanting to wipe the screen as if it has a film on it. Photos don't appear as good as they should. They seem to have jagged edges if they are lower resolution - almost like the screen over enhances jpeg artifacts.

This is a slight problem since I purchased this laptop mainly for photos and video. Needless to say, I am going to try to get a replacement with the XGA+ screen. I really love this laptop aside from the display.

First off, I emailed Dell customer care on Wednesday night and have not yet heard from them. Pretty much a non-issue now, however, because after using this laptop for a few days, I really got used to the screen. I realized that since the resolution is so high, DVDs played full screen are not being played at their native resolutions. If I reduce the DVD window size, it becomes super sharp.

Also, since I will be using this laptop for high resolution photos anyway, I checked some photos out of my digital camera, and they are awesome. I have really grown to like this screen. I don't know if I have been playing with this laptop for too long, but when I go back to my desktop with crt screen, I think it looks very dull.

As many have said, it is a personal preference whether or not you like the screen. I loved everything else about this laptop from the beginning, and now that I don't have an issue with the screen, I can say I am quite happy with my purchase.

Another convert! Woohoo!

It's all about viewing distance, really. From 3 feet away this screen is unparalleled no matter how used to it you are. From a bit closer it's completely normal.

My one gripe about this screen still is that it has a slight bluish cast that I can't get out using Dell's drivers for the display. Also it's hard to look for noise in a photo when the screen is noisy itself.

Other than that it's really a dream. Man I love this system.

So, you would recommend the 9200 to anyone whose arms are at least 4 ft long?

great sarcasm! I'm getting in a WXGA+ I9200 in on monday. I'll see how it is and will post a review

andycogbill: Yes, the color on the 9200 WUXGA is quite cooler than my other two screen. The ATI drivers that control it does allow you to adjust the colors, though no provision for simple color temperature adjustment.

When I was comparing this screen to the Sony WUXGA, one of the photo I used had a pretty good dynamic range (dark shadow, almost over blown highlight, and lot of shades in between) and I noticed that the Sony was able to show more details in the darker part of the image. I played around with the ATI gamma adjustment and was able to get the 9200 to display the image in as much color detail as the Sony.

Maybe its just me but because of many returns, dont you think Dell is making a little money from shipping charges? And because of many returns, do you think they should pay us back(if charged) for shipping because its a fault in there behalf?
I ended up just selling mine on Ebay. I read horror stories about Dell taking forever to issue the credit back. I took a hundred dollar loss, but at least I don't have to eat any more shipping fees or wait a month to get my money back. The guy that won already paid so I'm happy.

Seriously, 3 feet away?!?!? Come on. Just admit the screen sucks. Who uses a laptop from 3 feet away? I guess everyone should invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse and then sit across the room. Completely acceptable then.

... I use the laptop from 3 feet away. I imagine most people do -- two feet is an awfully short distance, I don't think you realize.

I chated with dell just right now and returned my system for a full refund. THeyll pay for the shipping both ways so im happy with that. I could have sold it to in ebay but the system they gave me was poorly made cosmetically and the hard drive rattles and something else rattles inside when you turn up the sound. WEll im not happy about the >30 days but as long as i get my money back full, then im happy.

Ill just have to wait for another great deal like my 25% off or the one that i missed, the $750 off.
do you even know how far 3 feet is?

monkeys don't even have arms that are 3 feet long

If your arm length isn't three feet, how exactly are you going to use a laptop that's three feet way? Unless your REALLY tall. Get a ruler or something and measure out three feet. It's pretty long.

Anyways, I managed to get a glimpse of the 9200 WUXGA screen today, and I can only repeat what others have said before. It depends on personal preference. When I first saw it, I thought it was okay and people were overreacting to the screen. But then my friend said "Something is really screwed up with that screen.." So yeah, it depends on your taste.

If you're in doubt, take a close look if you can before ordering. At least it saves the hassle of shipping it back to dell.

Yea, i should. lol But There is still a chance. right now, its only the i9200 that i like compared to any other manufacture made so unless sony lowered there price(hhhmmmm maybe, just maybe) ill wait and see if Dell offers a new screen for the i9200. Like i said before, Everything is great with this system, just the screen bothered me.

And andycogbill might be a cousin of yaw ming or s. o'neal so he has no problem with a 3 feet distance but what do i know
