IRDA and the Asus M6BNE + XPSP2

Thread Starter
i have not been able to get the IRDA port to work, i have tried all diffrent settings to get the lappy to even see my phone or dell axim, ive switched the setting from 115K to 9600 speeds, tried all the listed types of IR (SIR, hp, dell, etc) none of them work, the pda and the phone have no problems seeing each other but the laptop won't even recognize either of them, i DO see a red led blink on IR port of the laptop so.... i assume the transiver is actually seeing the pda but windows is not picking it up.

does anyone else have the same problem?

ahh the reasons i chose not to install sp2 I have never seen a red led blinking there, i should look next time. I would say do away with sp2 and just keep up with security updates and use the firewall and use an antivirus. I have never had a virus yet besides the spyware that adaware finds. I think EricT would recommend the same if i'm not mistaken...

Yes I have the same problem, but I've found that the port is actually working, you just need another program to use it, as a serial port (COM4 in my case).

Found workaround from Microsoft:

I didn't get the hotfix, but the Infrared Monitor service was stopped. I started it and it worked.
