Just ordered the 3790, have some questions about what to expect...

Hi I am a newbie to the forum. After muich deliberation with myself I decided to order the Sager NP3790-C notebook computer. I'm still really uncomfortable about ordering from Sager, as I can't find many reviews from the internet about their products and company. What I have heard is good, but some of the things I've read on the forum have me asking questions. I did some searches and have a few questions about what to expect when my computer is delivered.

If my questions are newb oriented and I need to do some more research, just let me know, but please don't be rude. I'm not demanding respect, I'm new, but I will respect you if you do the same to me.

Here goes.

Will MS Windows XP Professional be installed upon delivery and all the drivers for the devices built into the computer, eg, video, sound, dvd burner software, video camera in the lid, etc...?

What can I expect from the quality of the computer, like stability, build, quality of components internally, tech support,etc...

Will the video card (ATI MR 9700 with 128mb ram) be enough to handle World of Warcraft, maybe some Half Life Products, Unreal 2k4, Quake 3 Arena, and various other games?

I am fairly experienced with computers and their repair. I am a student at ITT Technical Institute, and run a home based business on a Cisco backed network. So I know what I'm doing to a degree. But, I've never owned a laptop from a company that's not so widely known as Apple, Dell, or IBM. If the computer doesn't ship with Windows installed, I have no problem installing it. As well as the drivers.

If there's anything else I should know, please let me know and thanks for the help.

My 3790 came installed with Windows and all the drivers. I did update my video driver once I got it. As far as build quality, it is a well built machine. No keyboard flex or light leakage on the screen. The MR9700 is a good card. I'm surprised on how well it plays HL2 and Counter Strike Source. I play with high on 1024 X 768 with 90 fps most of the time. Even though that is a lower res the game still looks great in my opinion.

Welcome! If you look around some more, you can find countless reviews on almost every model Sager has (or has had) offered.

Anywho... good choice! The 3790 kicks butt.

Yes, Windows and everything will come installed and ready to go right out of the box.

Stability, great. Build, better than most (and certainly the Dell I had before). Quality, again, good. Tech Support, I haven't needed it. It will also depend (to a degree) on your reseller. PCT goes out of their way to help their customers.

I have been playing WoW and HL2 with no worries. Medium to medium-high settings and have had no artifacts or other issues.

Otherwise, be ready to throw the standard-issue bag away. I found it worthless.

Again, welcome and be ready to enjoy your new toy!

Congrats. First off, where did you order it from? If you ordered it from Sagernotebook.com then it comes with windows installed. If you ordered it from a reseller like PCTorque or something then you would have had to choose whether you bought no OS or an OS of Win XP Home or PRo. Second, Sagers are good. If you bought from Sagernotebook.com then you probably paid extra and will not get the greatest support but it will be ok. The ATI 9700 can handle all of the newest games including HL2, Doom 3, Unreal 2k4, etc. They are built very well and you shouldn't have any problems with it. If you do, Sager has great customer service that will help you with any problems you might have. Make sure to check the forum for other threads mentioning what to do when a 3790 arrives, like update drivers, install apps, etc. I am going to buy the 3790 within the next week and after 7 Months of searching and changing my mind, I'm going for the 3790 because it is a great computer.

Hey guys thanks for the quick replies. Much appreciated.

I'm glad to hear that you guys give it such great reviews.

I will do a few more searches. But on the whole Sager is a good manufacturer?

BTW, NotebookForums.com rocks. Just as much as howardforums.com. My other frequented site.

When you say that PCT goes out of their way to help customers, are they a reseller? I ordered mine directly from Sagernotebook.com. Was that a bad choice?

edit: added a few words that were left out. such reviews is now such great reviews and sager.com is now sagernotebook.com

It wasn't the greatest choice but I'm sure it will be fine. When you order from a place like PCTorque you get people much like yourself who will talk to you and not just give you some mumbo jumbo that makes themselves look like jackasses. (Not sure what I meant but I think you understand)
