Its here!My 9200 arrived this morning

first impressions, well it's not the beast that people make it out to be, however I am 6foot4 so its probably perfect for me.

The machine is very well built no doubt. We have a number of 8600 inspirons at work and if you press your thumb against the chassis they creak and flex.

Not so with the 9200, anyway I'll post picks later. The ton of useless crap Dell has installed on the machine is driving me insane.

Congratulations DEEN Glad you're happy with it, software withstanding

I finally spoke to someone at Dell this morning (the Issue Resolution Expert for UK & Ireland) and he still claims that part shortages are to blame for 9200s being held in the manufacturing unit. However, he's now prioritised the order so with any luck it should ship tomorrow and be with me by Friday. *crosses fingers ... again*

Kind Regards

Jonty

which display did you get? if WUXGA, hows it?
i got mine WUXGA today too...
I have never seen such a display. It is sparkling and the funny thing is that i can't say if i like it or not. For me it is a bit stylish too. I think i can say more about it when i use it for couple of hours

... the more i use it, the more i like it...

Nice to hear that your starting too like it more and more . Mine should arrive in about 2 weeks (2.0 Ghz/WUXGA/60GB 7200rpm). Keep your opinions coming please love to hear them from you! Or any other (first-time) 9200 user.

Ive just ordered mine (today), strange thing is that they said that there is a 2 week lead time on this machine and that I wont get it until the week between xmas and new year.

Anyone else been told this?

Hi nparrett

When I rung up this morning I was told that all 9200s (whether this does mean all or just all UK & Ireland models) are sufferring from delays due to Christmas demand and the short supply of certain components. New batches of supplies are apparently delivered twice a week, on Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

I reckon the key is to key pestering them, lets just hope that nothing is wrong with the laptops. I hate the dell outsourced support.

Did he give you an estimate on the delivery of yours?
i was told that they have problems with DVD Writers. if you have ordered DVD\CD-WR i guess you will not have the problems i had. and one advice... call them several times a day (my laptop was treated as high priority after the first 4-5 days). yesterday morning it was in preproduction. in several hours it passed build, testing, pre shipment and shipment ..... the UPS order was made at about 5 pm and i had it today at 1pm....

and the WUXGA display...
It is not the best display i have ever seen, but if it does not make my eyes tired i will keep it

Hi nparrett

Since I'd been waiting so long he said he would prioritise my order to receive the components it needs. The revised shipdate is now tomorrow, so fingers crossed it will all go through and be delivered on Friday. The online order status page has remained on Friday for the delivery date, which is a good sign as it has been constantly slipping for the past few days (it did slip today to Saturday but soon reverted back to the Friday).

Good luck with everything

Jonty

P.S. I chose the DVD/CD-RW drive, digedi, so who knows?

One of the reasons I went for this laptop was because of the subwoofer, is that good?

Im expecting the worse with the screen.

I think its fact that the sony uxga is the best screen. Toshiba used to be the best but they have stopped making them. Their new range of laptops has a wonderful screen.

Digedi, does the speedstep for the laptop work properly, I had a nightmare with the 8200 one?

Thanks
unfortunately i can't fully test it because i received it at my work place and i am sure my colleagues hate me now :-)) they even asked me when i will start working :-))
i just had a look at it, changed the background several times and the DPI and entered some text in notepad and not much than this. The sound is OK, but i listened the music as quiet as possible because of my colleagues again, so ....
as no one reported a speedstep problem by now i guess it is OK

Hi guys

My i9200 turned up yesterday and it was definitely worth the wait It is simply stunning, both in terms of appearance and functionality. It caused a lot of heartache in getting here, but it was undoubtedly worth it, if only for the screen which is nothing short of superb.

Good luck with everything!
