Yes, should work fine although for best possible performance I rather recommend Corsair Value Select PC3200 1GB SO-DIMM (part no. VS1GSDS400) or Kingston ValueRAM PC3200 1GB SO-DIMM (part no. KVR400X64SC3A/1G) memory sticks.

Should be fine as well, but now there are also the Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 100GB 7200RPM drive that you definately should check out.

Yes, most definately.

I'll mainly use it for internet, light gaming (the sims, fifa, Nba live), office works (Word and Excel), light photo and video editing.

so which one is more suitable for me?
Both laptops should do fine for any of those tasks, but the Acer Ferrari 3400 is especially good for games and video editing. With the advent of 64-bit computing it will also do much better at those tasks in the future as more 64-bit apps come available. Get the Ferrari and be a happy camper

It should install just fine right out of the box, although see the link in my signature for optimized 64-bit drivers.

SD cards work perfectly fine, are you sure you've inserted it properly?

I went from Compaq Presario 700EA with built-in JBL speakers and the Ferrari speakers suck big time compared to those. I can only recommend that you by some external speakers for it.

It is more the rule than the exception that notebooks have bad speakers. Compaq Presario 700EA was one of the exceptions

Besides the speakers I really love my notebook and I would recommend it to everybody else.

While it is strongly recommended that you only have an Acer Authorized Service Provider crack it open and install memory and hard drive, it will NOT void your warranty if you do it yourself. As is standard operating procedure, however, anything you break while attempting anything on your own is not Acer’s responsibility and will not be covered under warranty. I think that is pretty much common sense.

You can disable this by going to the Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Sounds->Program events->Start Windows->Sounds and select (None).

component video out?

I just ordered Ferrari 3400. Anyone uses component output option from 7 pin Svideo output? I have the S video to component dongle that came with ATI X800 and connects my HTPC to my front projector. At 1280 X 720 picture is beutiful. I posted my question in the general forum but I guess no one there uses component video or 3400 is not able to output component video.

Thanks

Just got my Ferrari 3400...

Hi,

Got my Ferrari 3400 yesterday. I love it, but there are some things that dissapoint me.

It doestn't get warm, it gets HOT, to hot to put on my lap.
Is that normal?

The hard drive starts making noise every 10 minutes for too long as I would like it too.

Should I be dissapointed? Or is this normal for a Ferrari notebook? Would replacing the hard drive with a better one (like the suggested Hitatchi) make a lot of difference in terms of temperature and noise?

Thanks
T

The origianl hardisk is a Toshiba 4200rpm. It is much hotter than the Hitachi series. I suggest you replace it. Because ferrari 3XXX series are passive cooling, it is very easy to get hot on the left palm especially during heavy loading such as gaming.

Advancement Program

Hmm, do you think that there is a difference between following Acer's link and doing it right from Msoft's site? I didn't realize there was something on Acer's support site until a while after I ordered the disk. I get nowhere with either customer support so I figured I'd try this board.

By the way I have a Ferrari 3200 and am in love with it

Now that I think about it, I don't imagine anything *could* be different. An XP installation is an XP installation... grah I hope I'm right.

I have my Ferrari 3400 for about a week now and I'm getting desperate.

I know that replacing the hard drive with with a Hitatchi Travelstar wil improve a lot, but I think the following behaviour is not normal:

When I plug the notebook in AC power the hard drive is constantly making a lot of noise and ventilating. Is that normal? Because it is really annoying.

When I'm on battery power on the other hand, the hard disk only vents and makes noise every 10 minutes or so for a while.
