I agree this does appear like a different model than the D800, but I don't think it is any smaller. Looking at the pictures it appears as if the space on the sides of the keyboard is the same as the D800 (not scientific, I know) and I doubt they would shrink the keyboard. It does look like a different model based on the port configuration on the back and on the right side of the machine there is something in the middle where my CD-ROM drive on my D800.

Oh god - are they still using that tired looking, dated, plasticy and very unattractive chassis?!?! The 700m and the 9200 were a step in the right direction in terms of build quality and over all design/aesthetics - so I was hoping the other models will follow suite.

I doubt businesses would want flashy fancy design. That's why Dell keep the old design for latitude line. Same idea as IBM. They haven't change their design in YEARS. Unfortunately, IBM's leaving PC business soon.

I think the D810 is smaller. Look at the pic posted there: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=52872

I know those pics represent the 'new' Latitudes, but unless Dell will stop using the same chassis for both the Latitude and Insprion lines as they always have (adding tweaks here and there to differentiate the two), then expect the new Inspirons to look like the current ones (and I personally think they are hideous looking). I hope they at least get rid of that garish blue and try to make them somewhat thinner.

As far as the look and design of the IBM ThinkPads - while they may not be for everyone, they are built like tanks and have a unique industrial design. I would never compare a ThinkPad to any Dell business portable.

I would have to agree with you on the thinkpads, however they never offered what I wanted so they lost my sale. Interestingly, IBM has just
announced they are getting out of the PC business and are selling it

Don't know who is buying it, but Sanyo thinkpad anyone?

release dates?

this is why I like this forum!! Nice snooping

I entered the service tag to see if it would return whats inside the box, but it came up as invalid

Any word on release dates for both?

Yeah, I know it's weird. I could have sworn that it was just the Desktop business they were selling off and keeping the mobile line as ThinkPads are still very popular and profitable. Wonder what happened?

Interesting information...

It looks to be the same size & chassis as the D800, though the port placement is different.

"According to a Financial Times report today, citing sources close to the negotiations, IBM is in talks to sell off its desktop and notebook lines."

Yeah IBM is going into the chip building business to knock Intel for a loop!

Hmmmmmm.........need more pics of the D610!!!!!!!!

Don't really see a whole lotta' difference in either of these. Very much like the previous versions. Probably kinda' like 5100/5150/5160......booooo!

As the D610 has its keyboard removed to access the Mini PCI WiFi, I wonder if that's the only way the MiniPCI slot will be available on these new versions?? Not that it matters, I really don't take my Intel 2200 in & out, but if that's the DIMM bay next to it, that'd be kinda' weird to have to pull the keyboard to access any of these bays anymore.

Probably make for a pretty smokin' hot keyboard too!!! Yeeeoowwww!!!

Also looks like the new D810 will have a better graphics cooling solution compared to D800 if the vents on the rhs are anything to go by.
