really? what settings do you play your games at? I find with my system 800x600 at medium works just fine.

Sooner or later I'll have to upgrade to the 9700 too.

i am on the phone with alienware now they say i am compatible for the 9700 with th 40a3 mobo and pc3200 ram..i have ti send it in though..

WARNING!!!!!!! be very careful when placing your order! the rep i talked to was going to charge my credit card without telling me a total..i foudn out he was charnging me 300 for the card and another 2 hours for labor for the upgrade!!! The price of the card was suposed to be 250 (since i'm under warrenty) and i wasn't supposed to pay for labor!!! we got it straightened out but only because i specifically asked him what he was charging me

Let us know how long the turnaround time is.

FYI... I paid $291 for a motherboard upgrade.
It is AW's policy to only charge their cost for parts and no charge for labor if you are still under warranty (listed under component upgrades in support descriptions). Although, I still think they are profiting on the motherboard replacement as well as the overpriced video cards... IMO

hummm
I'm waiting to hear back from David at Alienware about this matter as well as from Alien-Juan. I'm having problems with my 9600 playing games and even getting games to load. I hope I dont have to send in my computer, that would suck. Anyways I have tried all settings and 800x600 helps but the quality looks really crappy and I didnt pay $3000 to play on those settings. I'm still thinking it's the card. crappy 9600...

It can not be worse than the POS FX go5600.

so I have the revision 2.0 and Motherboard 4001

It seems since I am still under warranty they will fix my Motherboard for free so it can handle the power requirements of the newer card.

Not sure if I want to send it in, I use it too much.

IF I have to send it in to get it fixed then that's where I run into a problem. I use my everyday and cant really be without it. I wish Alienware would do onsite service for it, that would be really nice. I wonder If I can do that....even if I have to pay for it(like $50-100 max)
I hope I dont have to send it in to use the 9700..just waiting to hear back from someone about that.

...let's not forget sending it in means they probably format the hard drive too!!!!

Well, right now they're telling me that they think they may have the wrong information for my system in their database and that I may still be able to get the 9700.

Sephiroth209, does the invoice for your system say something like Rev 2.0 next to the motherboard listing? It seems that the 2.0 part is the problem in my case and not the 40A3 part.

I have the Rev. 2.0
I think everyone does

Sooooooo TRUE!! The 5600 was awful
LeftOnRed, yes my invoice says Rev 2.0

they SAID turnaround would be 12 business days, but i'm expecting a month (i've had 2 depot experinces already)

however they wouldn't tell me why exactly i had to send my system in, kept changing the subject on me

Probably because if they admit there is a problem between their supposedly UPGRADEABLE systems and the graphics cards that go in them they would be responsible for fixing all laptops that are under warranty. And keeping it somewhat quiet might keep those that are uninformed at bay.

Who knows I talking outta my arsehole anyway. I would like mine fixed, I just don't wanna send it in. . .

So a shameless offer I will present, MR9700 for sale any takers?

your not going to keep your ati 9700??
hwow much would u sell it for.... Im waiting for David from Alienware to tell me if the 40A3 version mobo will work for the 9700, on the alienware website it says it works, and i think the reps are getting different stories so im waiting to see what david tells me. I dont want to send in my system, maybe I could get some type of onsite service.

Make sure guys/gals.. to pull your hard drives...before sending in,,,like the other poster said,, they will more than likey format yr drives,,, they always do..... they just need to mod your mobo, so that should not change the system software,, i think not,, i may be wrong,, but i would pull hard drive just to be safe,, i got too much stuff to lose and im sure everyone else does too,,good luck everyone,,,

I was told by AW if the machine is sent to depot without the hard drive they will ship it back without performing the service. I purchased a second hard drive after my 4th depot... now I will just send them back the machine with the original drive vs. the new one with all my data on it. $124 for 60gig 7200 RPM drive is cheaper than my time to reinstall everything.
