Problem with drivers (i think)

Thread Starter
lately i've been getting an error from my computer. mostly while i am playing SWG, but i've been getting it at random times too. i took a pic of the screen.

go here
for it.

i went looking for the problem in with my computer, because i had no idea what this atapi.sys file was or what it was doing. i then found it in my dxdiag file.

here is the section from the file with the atapi.sys thing in it:
Quote:

Driver: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\pciidex.sys, 5.01.2600.1106 (English), 8/29/2002 08:00:00, 23680 bytes
Driver: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\atapi.sys, 5.01.2600.1106 (English), 8/29/2002 08:00:00, 86912 bytes
do i have to update my drivers? if so what drivers do i need? any help would be great.

ATAPI a a driver it is usually associated with your CD-ROM drive.

I checked mine and they're the same version as yours, then again I don't play games so that's probably not as helpful.

Search www.microsoft.com/technet for your KERNEL message. Bunch of gobbledygook (SP?) but you may get some clues.

You need the Via IDE controller driver. Get the latest Via Hyperion 4in1 drivers from Viaarena.com and see what happens.

The drivers included with Windows aren't very good and only offer minimal support for Via chipsets so I've found.
