It really is a shame that they didn't update the cases on the laptops to be less bulky. A slim version of the new laptops would be ideal.
What hardware do you think they should take out of the casing to make it smaller?

What, do you think they made the casing that big just for fun? Or maybe they were just being sadistic to their customers?

I fall into the same "heart set on 8890, but SXGA screen is a dealbreaker" crowd. I think it's obvious that if Clevo could get a reliable supply of high-quality 16"-ish UXGA screens, they'd offer them in the 8890. So don't blame Clevo exclusively for dropping the UXGA - if they can't get accptable screens, what choice do they have?

Always nice to see confirmation from another vendor, though, so the news about powernotebooks was good info, at least for me.

It's not that I don't believe PCTorque. But in this business, you soon learn not to trust anyone...

According to powernotebooks new 8890 screen made by Sharp

This may have already been stated here. According to Powernotebooks the Sharp monitor on 8890 is all-around better than the one that was from Hitachi.

I didn't know how to grab just that section, but here's a link to the discussion part:

hmmm. attempted to test link. got no connection. maybe they are updating website???.

I think what most people here are after are the actual specs of the LCD (contrast, brightness, viewing angle, response time...etc) Simply saying that it's "better" doesn't tell me a whole lot. Side by side comparisons and specs would be preferrable

Right on, only thing holding me back from geting a 8x series is the lcd

Oh, the purpose of the post wasn't to give a "rest easy" 'cause they say it's better.

The purpose wast to share who the manufacturer is. Hopefully with that lead, someone might be able to grab some details on SHARP LCD panels and pull some specs in.

I do like the qualitative assertion given in powernotebooks post though:

In the mean time I can tell you that the 16" SXGA screen (made by Sharp) is actually a better quality, brighter, better color vibrancy screen than the 16.1" UXGA screen by Hitachi.
Sounds good to me

8890 OUT!! & Pricing!!

Looks like Eurocom once again likes to show off and steal the show, they now show the 8890 as ready for purchase with the available options. No more waiting, this is the preview until PCTorque gets on the ball.

Few things to bitch about........is this a preview on how much its going to cost fully loaded? (its almost a thousand more than I though)

Im sure that each OEM will have different config, but I did not notice an option for a second 60GB 7200RPM hard drive, nor did I notice the six in one reader.....any commend on this Adam (we know your review machine had two of them, can you elaborate on the specs your review was in)

SWEET, but might have to go for the cheaper one if it passes the four grand mark!!!

remember that eurocom is a canadian company the price that was mentioned might have been the canadian price instead of the us price... sometimes their site is confusing.. you only have a few days till Adam puts up pricing and preordering on the site..
I think Eurocoms pricing has to take into account the currency exchange rate.

The euro to dollar ratio is not 1 to 1.
Ie 1 euro might be worth 1.2 dollars.

I don't know what the current exchange rate is, but I'm sure euros are worth more than dollars. So they will demand more dollars in the pricing.
opps. Eurocom's a Canadian company.

Maybe same deal with exchange rate applies to them too.
yeah canadian is higher then dollars... eurocom lists both prices but can be rather confusing.. but anyway I can wait to see for sure the prices from adam only a couple more days.. (friday I beleive from the news releases..)
