...tick ...tick...tick...tick...tick...

(I wonder if this could qualify as cruel and unusual punishment....)

If the flood gates are open tomorrow (Friday),

can we put our order in, specify we want it colored, and have the actual build delayed until the color option is available.

Color should be a week or two after initial release, right?

RAID...isn't that for roaches?...j/k

With the new 8890 hardware raid set up : What does "hardware raid" do and why do I need two equal hard drives set up with the same staorage?

Thanks in advance.
RAID-0 converts two physical drives into a single virtual drive by 'striping' the data accross them. This means writing alternating segments of data to alternating drives. This way each drive only has to read/write half the data, doubling the speed with which you can perform hard disk I/O.

RAID-1 takes two drives. One drive functions normally as your hard drive, the RAID controller mirrors all actions of the first drive onto the second so they are identical. If one fails, all your data is automatically backed up on the second.

In both versions, the drives should be identical (two copies of the same model) for optimum performance, since the drives have to work symetrically.

Do a search on the forum if you want a more detailed answer, this has already been discussed in depth in previous threads.

I hate asking questions about this kinda stuff, cause if that's all I do, I look completely helpless, which I dont think I am.....but here goes:

Can someone send in, say, their new 8890, in a few months when they have the time and money to get it painted? Will Adam have the company name and all that available then, ya think, or will could this hypothetical person in that hypothetical situation (namely me when I have more money) just go through PCTorque?

There, I did it.....now I am off to get my paycheck to and to count all my money together.....hoping I have enough....wish me luck.

Whats the new keyboard?

thanks,
Josh

The 6-in-1 card reader that fits in the MP3 bay will be available later as will the new keyboard and they can be purchased at a later time after getting the notebook. Also, the 8890 will come with a DVI-CRT adapter for those that don't have a DVI input monitor.

So the new keyboard with the new enter key isn't available yet?

Oh and it comes with a DVD-RW? or is that a missprint?
hows the new keyboard different from the current 1? any specs or such?

I think he actually meant what he said: DVI-CRT adapter (the thing that will allow you to use a regular monitor as an external monitor, as the 8890's video out is DVI).

Terribly dissipointed....

Well, I have been waiting to purchase a laptop, primarily the 8890 from PCtorque. Unfortunately, according to the email I received from them Sager will not release details regarding the damn LCD screen. They expect us to buy the non-UXGA version because they cannot meet production level of the originally projected screen. And to cover it up and get a product online with their due date they substitute another in its place. Ok, fine, I understand thats the problems manufacturers deal with..... Suppliers and schedules are a nightmare.

What I do not understand is how a company can go balls to the walls with everthing else, but will not release the simple specifications of the dang LCD. Thats not something I would expect and I am terribly dissapointed. : (

I'm sure they had a good reason to choose that display. SXGA will be just as good and better for most. Quality wise, I would be interested in knowing how good it is. I tried searching but have failed to find anything useful.
